I didn't realize Black & Decker made anything this heavy duty.
The name plate says 'Sander'. Very huge and heavy.
I must find a guard that I can adapt to this monster.
Everyone, Thank You. My 80 year old machine is all back together and running sooo smoothly.
I used a roll pin to secure the pinion gear to the shaft.
I clamped the gear on the bottom of the big nurled knob in a vice (with soft wood covering the jaws), and got the outer end which engages the...
It was going back together nicely, with a roll pin, until I hit the return spring, which right or wrong, I had removed from the big knob during tear down.. Any tricks, or where to start? So far, I'm coming up empty.
The motor date is E4 45.
The motor model # is 115.6759
re: model # on base. Yes it WAS behind the stanchion/column. But, all that was left of it were the two rivets that previously held a nameplate.
ALL, Thanks for your help.
Exciting news; thank you. I'll follow up.
My father (born 1924) worked at a powder metalurgy co, and rose from maintenance to Plant Engineer. He could fix / build anything. He brought this home to his garage shop, probably from work, about 40 years ago. He passed about 15 years ago, and it...
So I see, said the blind man. I could not get to the back of the base (and did not expect to find the MN there), so I'll have another look and get back to all. I used a hand held brush. The machine is in great shape, but the base is very pitted, rusty, thinking any engraved number might have...
Thanks for the reply. Nice article. A spring pin is a great idea. I wonder if Lowes or HD will have that in their hardware drawers?. The hole goes thru the gear. The gear is only stamped BOSTON.
The handle rods are not bent, a mystery.
I've included a few photos you might enjoy (was...
OK: The pinion gear is slipping on its shaft because the dowel pin is lying at the bottom of that cavity, in two pieces. Interestgingly, there also was one gear tooth in that space, but both the pinion gear and the rack gear are fine, having all their teeth in place. The pin is 0.185" (3/16"...
Hello Frank, I enjoyed the video.
I eplaced the spring a few years ago with something I found, probably on Amazon.
It was not perfect, but probably needs an adjustment at this time.
I'll post better photos of this lovely machine in the near future, with a report also. BTWE, thewre is a very...
Very old Craftsman floor model drill press does not exert enough down force on the drill bit. The shaft of the four spoke handle appears to rotate as it enters the body. Something is slipping inside the cast housing, but I don't see any access to the works inside. How to remedy?
