Be Gentle...or not. Learning to stick metal together.

those welds dont look too bad.... Weldiing thinner material is harder to control the heat try welding the same pipe in smaller beads say 8 instead of 4 I normally weld about 3/4 - 1 inch beads, missing every second one, then filling in the gaps Paul

Educate me about round head ratchets...

I have the exact ratchet pictured, and fint it very useful as a nut driver. the black do you mentioned is actually an allen head screw for adjusting side tension, mine is set so that it can move when you want it to but is not floppy I still use a normal ratchet for the initial break and final...

    Workshop Therapy

Well, the next installment is my fix for something that has been bugging me for a while, I know these projects are pretty basic, they are not really meant as instructional. They are however what I am using as learning to use my tools properly. I have one of the chinese trolleys, this is...

    Workshop Therapy

Thanks, I tend to use them a lot (maybe I'm cheap, maybe I see the value in junk), either way I keep way too much. But the only thing I bought in the photos is the 1.5x 1.5 tube for the gantry. I have come across some great ideas on GJ for some improvements to my workshop so will start a garage...

Cheers, and welcome to the board. Gantry is 2.4m and I have 2m of stainless unistrut to go on it. My welder is 53kg with the wire so I was looking to build my own trolley to fit in the unistrut, but not 100% sure how yet Paul

    Hello from Queensland, Australia

Hello, I have been lurking around GJ for a bit, was introduced by a friend who found GJ from Jalopy journal. Anyway I am a tool geek who has a 7m x 6m (23 x19.5 feet) workshop and 6m x 6m (19.5 x 19.5 feet) storage shed. Both are iron frames with coloured iron sheeting, as is the norm over here...

A Man's Garage is What He Makes It

Yes, I think this thread (and 12 guage) has inspired me to do something with my own garage. It is completely un organised and unusable. Unfortunately no vintage tools though, will have to make to with some 'modern stuff' and my sanity relieving fabrication projects. Thanks for sharing Paul
