    Opinions on Williams and/or Armstrong??

This is a good point. I was hoping there would be a one-stop shop for just the basic tools that I need just to make things easier. However, I'm starting to see that piecing together a set over time as I need the tools might be best. For now, I just need 1/2" SAE sockets and wrenches plus a...

    Opinions on Williams and/or Armstrong??

Thanks for all the input!! All I can say from these posts is that it seems increasingly difficult to find consistent quality from most major manufactures. I was in Atlanta this weekend for the Petit Le Mans and picked up a Cornwell catalog but I think they are pretty expensive (I forgot to ask...

    Opinions on Williams and/or Armstrong??

Good call. I actually meant to include Wright in my post. I took a hard look at their stuff a few months ago and it seemed very high quality. Most of this new stuff is for a few antique tractor restorations so my tool application needs are pretty limited.

    Opinions on Williams and/or Armstrong??

I usually enjoy the research involved in making a large investment but I've just about had it when it comes to finding the best bang for my buck in a set of wrenches and sockets. It's gone on for way too long and I just need to pull the trigger on something. All the truck brands seem...

SO Heavy Duty Road Chest...good deal???

Yeah, I looked all over for freight rates. I even put an ad on uShip and the best I could find was around $250. The seller said he uses a few shippers though his shop and got two quotes, one for $150 and one for $130. We agreed on $600 all in and that was the total price on his Paypal...

SO Heavy Duty Road Chest...good deal???

Well, for what's it's worth, I insisted we use Paypal for the transaction and he sent me an invoice. I guess there's still a chance he just doesn't deliver but I'd say it's no more or less likely than buying anything on e-bay; I'd presumably have the same recourse (whatever that may be) if he...

SO Heavy Duty Road Chest...good deal???

It's the KRA62C; the same 10-drawer model they sell currently. I think it's only a few years old. I've heard they're built like tanks and it's probably all the tool chest I'll ever need so I figure it's worth spending the extra coin.

SO Heavy Duty Road Chest...good deal???

I found someone selling a SO Heavy Duty Road Chest on another forum for $500 plus $100 freight shipping. He sent me a bunch of pics and it's in great shape aside from a few scrapes. I've always wanted one of these boxes but brand new they're WAY outside my price range. This one's actually...

HELP!! Wrenches, ratches, and sockets...oh my...

Thanks everyone!! This is REALLY helpful!! I think I'll just start piecing things together as I go through this next tractor restoration, especially if I can find deals at pawn shops and on e-bay. I actually never had my own tools before. I was kinda like the shop "swingman" before I moved...

HELP!! Wrenches, ratches, and sockets...oh my...

Thanks autoace!! That's VERY helpful! The Proto stuff does look pretty nice. Not sure I fully understand the moral issues surrounding hand tool ownership but I guess I'll take my chances.

HELP!! Wrenches, ratches, and sockets...oh my...

You mean there's not one ratchet that's the clear, undisputed champ?!?! That's kinda what I figured. I guess what I'd really like to know is if any of these should be avoided for one reason or another. If not, I'll just pick based on price or appearance. I doubt I'll have a chance to get any...

HELP!! Wrenches, ratches, and sockets...oh my...

Hey everybody!! I've spent some time snooping around this forum the past few days and it's been very helpful so far. I've wanted to put together a nice set of tools for about 10 years but always had such a hard time deciding what to buy that I would ultimately just give up. I'm not a...
