I have one and it doesn't wobble at all. Sounds like you got a bad one. But then again it only sits on a flat surface when being stored. When being used its wedged somewhere in an engine bay tilted so the fluid goes to the pickup tube.

Just upgraded my old box to this Epiq. Very happy with it so far.

With the layout you have you will be better off with the KD frame. You will have to stub out the wall on the hinge side so the compression anchors have something to press against a the top, and bottom of the frame has something to tie into. I would go ahead and build the wall with equal spacing...
