Tested the old light hardware and wiring. It's definitely shot. Of course I don't know if it worked before I got it. New hardwarelater. Happy with where I'm at. Thank you all.

I don't know. I must have wired something wrong. I checked the light again and it has no power. Not worried about it for now. Don't really need a light. May install new light later.

Okey dokey, I'll try a direct to motor wire approach. There are pictures of my wiring under the drill press album. Under the wires album you'll find my pictures after the short occured.

Tested with a voltmeter. The wall outlet is hot. The power cord is hot. So after the sparking event I assume the motor is now messed up. Regarding the wiring on the motor is was already setup for 110 when I got it. I haven't changed anything.

Checked the power cord (which is new), and it's fine. No power at motor or light. Pretty sure the light is shot, but I did wire the motor and power cord up without the light and stil no power at the motor. Gotta go to work. Thanks again for everything.

Forgive my ignorance, I have not used a meter (ever). I will look up some information on using a meter. I really am a rookie electrician.

The outlet is fine. I'm going to examine the motor closer , has a capacitor I need to look at. May replace the motor.

No, the light bulb doesn't work. I may have to get a replace fitting for the light bulb.

Yes, switch box attached by machine screws. As the two grounds are wired together in the switch, I will do a pigtail and replace one machine screw with a green ground screw. To ground the drill press I'll have to replace one of the screws from the box where the wires are at the motor (as shown...
