    Shop Finished

Thanks Guys tgreening: The Anvil Journeyman is a bicycle frame building fixture. It holds the tubes in place during frame construction. Here is a picture of a frame in it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pereiracycles/2341986889 smedly: Yes, Roaring 29er was in Dirt Rag when it won "Best Off Road...

    Shop Finished

Hey All, Spent about a month setting up my garage to use as a bicycle framebuilding shop. I've been in business for about 4 years and have always wanted to move the shop to my home rather than rent. The shop is in a 24' x 24' 2-car garage. Thanks to everyone in the Lighting and Electrical forum...

125A panel off of 200A Main Breaker?

Got the meter main and mast set up and passed inspection. Inspector walked through the rest of the project. He didn't notice the 125A panel, but told me I couldn't put it where the other one was, so I ditched it for a 200A with it's own main breaker. Should have planned to do that anyway. Had to...

125A panel off of 200A Main Breaker?

I want to use the smaller 125A panel (16/24) because it fits better in the location where the old panel is. It's a small house and I'll never need a 40 space panel. I'll also never draw 125 amps! Power is going off in 30 minutes or so. Looks like I need to make another trip to HD. Thanks for the...

125A panel off of 200A Main Breaker?

67 455, Thanks for the reply. I think you misunderstood me. The garage is running off the 100A breaker and it has a 100A panel--no problem there. The house panel is the 125A and it is downstream of the 200A main disconnect, not the 100A breaker. So, there is a 200A feed going to the 125A Main...

125A panel off of 200A Main Breaker?

I am in the process of upgrading the house meter and panel and running an underground feeder to my garage. New meter base has 200A main disconnect breaker with a 100A breaker for the garage feed. I bought a 125A Main Lug panel for the house to feed from the 200A disconnect, but I'm now...

    Ground rods in trench?

Hey guys, I'm wiring up my house and garage and have a question about the ground rods. I'm adding two to the house and two for the garage. Can I put them in the same trench as the feeder conduit? It is Sched 40 PVC, 18" deep. It would be convenient to drive them in alongside the pvc, but I...

    Buying Materials in Portland, Oregon

I just called Platt on the wire and a few other questions. Seemed 30-50% higher on everything. e.g. #2 THHN is $1.44 at Platt and $1.10 at HD. I'll buy the stuff that HD doesn't have at Platt and the rest where it is cheaper. I wish 200' of #2 would magically appear on the side of the road!

    Buying Materials in Portland, Oregon

Hey Gang, I'm ready to pull the trigger and buy everything for my electrical upgrade. Should I get it all from a supply house like Platt or will I get better prices at Home Depot? I know this is a tough question, but I'm hoping someone has gone through this before here in Portland. I'm...

    GFCI Needed?

I plan to get the work permitted and inspected, so I want to do it right. Thanks for the info. Much clearer now.

    GFCI Needed?

Hope you guys don't mind me reviving this dead thread. From the code it sounds like the GFCI receptacles are required for all garage outlets. Can they or can't they be wired with GFCI breakers or downstream of GFCI receptacles? I'd rather not shell out for 12 GFCIs if I don't have to.

Upgrade House or Separate Service to Garage?

So, if I do this panel upgrade, am I going to have to upgrade the house wiring? Many circuits in the house are ungrounded and it looks like the common wires and the ground wires terminate on the same buss bar in the box.

Upgrade House or Separate Service to Garage?

Yikes! Well, I think that last point just put over the edge. I was pretty close anyway. Ok, now to figure out how much this is gonna cost me! Thanks for the help. I'll start a new thread when I figure out my next batch of questions. I'm DIY all the way...
