    It's just WRONG!

When trawling through eBay, I often see sellers with 'AU' or 'Australia' in their name. These, I avoid ardently; if you have to say it in your brand/store name then the chances are that you are trying to make up for the fact that you actually ship from China. Sometimes I see sellers named this...

Spirit Levels - Coated vs Milled

I don't mind the yellow of the Stabilas as, to me, that's what a level should look like and I have memories of my father with yellow levels and I have a vintage level from a now-dead relative that is also yellow so the colour brings to mind a certain era of no-nonsense, build-it-to-last...

Spirit Levels - Coated vs Milled

I write a lot because I think a lot. I tend, of course, to write too much and that is also proportional. My nature is to analyse the component parts of a thing in order to understand its workings and its relationship to other objects of the same sort. From that, I put together an ideal version...

Spirit Levels - Coated vs Milled

I went with Sola - a Red (their best) for the 120cm/48" and a Big X for the 40cm (16") and 80cm (32"). And a bag that holds all three. And a pocket magnetic one for mounting some bathroom fittings. None of these have handles (see my gripe at the end) but I just couldn't find any with handles...

Spirit Levels - Coated vs Milled

Thank you all - I appreciate the responses. One reason for my concern about milled vs coated was that Stabila themselves imply that this is a factor as they list the following in the 'product advantages' of their 70 and 80 series levels: "Coated measuring surfaces protect delicate surfaces."...

Spirit Levels - Coated vs Milled

But which Stabila? The one that meets most of my criteria is the 196-2 but, crucially, that has a milled rather than a coated edge and I just don't know if it will mark fine finishes. Saying 'Stabila' is all well and good but, so far as I can tell, NONE of the Stabilas combine removable caps...

Spirit Levels - Coated vs Milled

Thanks for the response, Matt. Which model(s) of Stabila levels do you have? I keep reading and hearing everyone standing by their Stabila levels but I seldom get to find out which particular models they mean. It seems that the only Stabila level with removable end-caps and coated surfaces is...

    work bench idea: waddya think?

This kind of thing is something I am looking for and for mostly the reasons specified - having some tools that need storing and wanting to do that in a compact area that can double as a bench. The complement of tools stored would be similar to those mentioned, with the cupboard holding things...

Spirit Levels - Coated vs Milled

Hi all, I have two relatively simple and related questions and a more involved follow-up request for suggestions. First, the questions: Assuming the same accuracy, is there any benefit to a level with a milled surface over one with a coated surface? On the flip side, does a milled edge...
