Gearwrench sockets are machined, not forged or sintered
We make a double hex rotary broach for our rotary broach tool holder shown in this video, but it's used for making low volume custom wrenches not production tools. I think the wrench manufacturers must use some type of broaching to make the forms.

Mad, you're right about the hex broaching. It can be done much deeper than you normally see in a socket.
