There is a single other shallow hole on the side. Maybe 1/16" wide. The back and other edges are featureless, except for a lot of dents and bangs.

Last weekend, I hit the tail end of a three day estate sale and found a few things. Best was a seemingly complete craftsman gear puller. Actually, the box and some parts were in the basement, the puller was in the garage, and I reunited them. The Williams wrenches will probably go in the sale...

Does someone know what hand brace this is?

That is the very very old "Rose Chuck" Probably Millers Falls, but maybe before MF bought the patent. 1860-70s. Fourth down here: https://oldtoolheaven.com/millers-falls/brace/FeaturedBraces.htm The only one I've found had the chuck filled with plaster holding a rusty **** bit. Presumably...

I'm not RTM but any Disston Saw that is stamped and doesn't say "and son" or "and sons" is Civil War era or before. And that handle is a very old style too.

Hit an Estate Sale Saturday. I think the guy took apart everything he ever had and saved any potentially useful pieces in little boxes. Lots of little boxes. Lots. Tools were few. I suspect family got them, because there was no sign of them in the pictures. The Plumb DOE is twice the...

Does the head on the combo square say Gooddell Pratt on it? I tend to expect a heart shaped cut out with Gooddell Pratt, and think Lufkin when I see that shape. I can't declare it a rule or anything, but I am gathering evidence. I see some name on the protractor, but that proves no more than...

There should be a picture of one of those old 1/4" B&D drills in the dictionary next to "Ubiquitous". How many millions did they make? Is there anyone born before, say, 1990 who didn't have one at some point? I know I did. My Dad did. I've refused free ones. And they are still out there...

    Recommend me a screwdriver set

I drove German cars for decades. I can't remember that last time I needed a flathead screwdriver to turn a screw in a German car. The '63 beetle? Maybe 1st generation watercooled VWs? But, we all have stashes of old screwdrivers. If there is a problem, go to your grinder or pick up a file...

No picture? I'd recommend one check to see if you have something cool. I have a bunch of reversible screwdrivers from German car factory tool kits - Philips/flat with a plastic handle. Very handy. Pretty good quality. Some of the wood handle ones in the 60s may have been reversible too...

I believe I see tools that came from the factory beetle tool roll. There is the lugnut/generator pully socket, the combination pliers with the black handle, the wooden handled screwdriver with the odd longish blade, and the double ended Heyco wrench. There should be at least one more heyco...
