Look on you tube, there is a guy who completely rebuilds an old craftsman sabre saw. If I remember correctly, he used hi-temp grease.

I had the same issue, with the same craftsman jointer handle. I drill a 3/16 hole into the the part that mounts onto the machine, I then inserted a metal pin that will extend far enough into the handle to give it strength. I then filled the hollow cavity with jb weld, locking the pin in place...

Thanks for the kind words, the block grinder was tough in appearance, but runs like new! I simply clean and repaint my tools, so it would not make much of a thread. I use everyone of my old tools. My love for the older Craftsman tools comes from the great memories I have walking through the...
