I have a Gardner Denver left from the previous owner. I have no idea of its vintage but am sure it needs a tune up. It pumps up to about 35 psi then the motor starts to labor and pretty soon stops altogether while making that locked-up humming sound. It has yet to kick off via the pressure...

rburke-Last year we spent about $350 for heat with the thermostat set at 50F and the heat turned on from late Oct. to mid Feb. I'm not sure what the cost per gallon was. Jackfre-We understand that the water heater is not ideal and more like a band aid, but we cannot afford a boiler this year...

Thanks for the advice! I found a Whirlpool 40 gal LP unit at Lowes for $457. It is just slightly taller than the old one so the install should go fairly smooth. Thanks again.

Yeoman, I agree! I am storing a car for a friend right now and a tractor for the previous owner. Once I get the old frame from the Firedome out, I'll have more space!!! I'm just west of Bement.
