Help sizing, positioning and choosing a diy mini split

Seems like 12K would be enough as you are a bit further south than my set up. As I mentioned it is the heating which came up a bit short not the cooling. I am not sure it is the size of the unit or just the fact that this type of heat exchanger has its limits when it gets well below freezing...

Electric Micro Boiler for Radiant Heat

Thanks for the reply. Looks like im around 26k as well. Hydro is not cheap in Ontario so more than a bit spooked by potential electricity costs. 50 degrees is fine for the shop. Was going to heat the loft with radiant as well until i realized a minisplit would heat and cool that space. Cooling...

Help sizing, positioning and choosing a diy mini split

Hi, I installed a Pioneer mini split in my loft. 15x24. Well insulated I installed it myself so not that difficult. I am in Ontario so below freezing in winter. Seems to hold 68 when its really cold but that's it. Cooling, no trouble at all on the hottest of days. Cheap units so don't know how...

Electric Micro Boiler for Radiant Heat

Good link, thanks. I have been through a good portion of the one with pics of different systems. I am in southern Ontario so chilly winters. Overhead door is insulated and separates shop from unheated section of barn. Could probably use more insulation in ceiling though about 18 ft in the middle...

Electric Micro Boiler for Radiant Heat

I recently posted a thread about condensing boiler for shop heat. Was planning propane but it would appear that with a shop as small as mine(768ft) it would be hard to size a boiler small enough. And with the cost of propane, tank rental, price of boiler, gas fittings etc, it may be better to...

Best Condensing Boiler for small shop

Thanks, I think i have ruled out the propane. Looking at electric boiler options at this point. The 12W units give around 40kbtu which is plenty for me i think. Quite well insulated and heated space above mostly. Now need to figure out if i still need to use a primary/secondary system and if the...

Best Condensing Boiler for small shop

Thanks for the input. I have 100A in the barn and run mostly small power tools and a mini split upstairs in the loft. It doesn't draw much. The electric wh option is definitely a simple one. Nice not to worry about renting/buying a propane tank and a gas hook up. Ontario has on/off peak billing...

Best Condensing Boiler for small shop

Thanks for the responses. Will definitely need to deal with condensate issues if i go with a condensing boiler. It is a small space, had initially planned on heating loft as well but discovered i could heat that with a mini split. Went with a Pioneer there and installed myself. Works great. So...

Best Condensing Boiler for small shop

Hi all, I am preparing to install a boiler in my workshop. The shop is a 32 x 24 section of my barn. I have R22 on walls and ceiling. 12 foot ceilings. 3 double pane windows one man door and a 10x10 overhead door. 2" foam board under poured slab with 3 x 290 ft loops. Planning a primary...
