Confess: What Tool Did You Not Really Need But Bought Anyhow? (Silly Stuff Included)

That's a very useful rat. I use it more often than I expected. I bought a Steelman Mini Engine Ear after seeing it on sale in a thread. I tried using a stethoscope, but it was just too loud with my tinnitus. The MEE works good and I can dial the sound down to a comfortable level. Sooo...

Which version of Plomb / Proto wrenches have the best steel ??

If you want hard working tools, you might stay away from the WWII era wrenches. Some have too much carbon, IIRC. Other than that, any Proto wrench is a good tool. Proto 500s are great. I love the feel of the 1930's end wrenches.

Unboxing a 40 Year Old Leaf Blower

I bought the ethanol-free gas and mixed the oil to the percentage shown on the label. I cranked and cranked. Then I got the tractor crack (starting fluid) and it would run just a few seconds. Then I touched the fuel line and it shattered. Gas wasn't getting to the carb. Curiously, the...

Unboxing a 40 Year Old Leaf Blower

That's a good plan. I'll do it. As for the 80's attire; I still can fit into trendy shirts I bought back in the 80's. They are now retro and cool!

Unboxing a 40 Year Old Leaf Blower

The mix formula is on a label. I was going to use some pre-mixed fuel I have, but it isn't fresh. I'll get a fresh supply of gas and oil.

Unboxing a 40 Year Old Leaf Blower

We get a lot of leaves at my home. So far, I've spent about 12 hours, and I've filled around 30 bags with mulched leaves. I have a nice setup for corralling leaves; two hand-held electric blowers that I use simultaneously. The problem is the leaves in the beds next to the house. I got...

Comical tool reviews on online stores

Many years ago, there was a GJ member who posted an amusing review of a $5 vise that he bought. He said buyers should give him the $5 and he would kick them in the nuts, and that would be less painful than using the crappy vise that couldn't hold anything.

Red Bricks and FREE Sand - GONE!

I've got 250 red bricks from the Triangle Brick Company that are left over after my garage project. I'd like to get $100 for them. I'm throwing in a large bag of sand that was left over and there are many partial bricks that are usable for those places where a full brick is too large.

Question about new concrete slab install

Thanks! I plan to put shelving in the corner, so I won't even see it. Ah - So that is the reason. The foundation must be covered. I have no experience with concrete, so I didn't have an opinion on how to deal with the situation. I relied upon the contractor to do what is proper.

Question about new concrete slab install

That could be it. They dug down a ways to the foundation. I guess you need more than 4" of concrete over the foundation? I've seen these curbs in other garages, so there must be some rule or standard. I tried to, but the cement contractor was not friendly. The general contractor told me...
