What parts are 12mm & 17mm Allen wrenches used on?

You need a 12mm hex for removing some bicycle freehub bodies from the hub shell. Unless its silly expensive I try and buy sets as I never know what random size I will come across next, or manufacturers start using non standard sizes on new products.

Welding helmet for my son for school, Any recommendations?

What is he going to be doing? I have a nice 3M Speedglass I use for TIG. At work we use cheap autodarkening helmets as they get burned up and abused in a fab shop. One of the older guys prefers a fixed shade. I like my air fed mask for long welds as it doesnt steam up, annoying for intermittent...

getting gearbox bearings on without a press

I have heated a crown wheel up in an oven to make it a slip fit instead of a press fit. Best done when your wife/GF/mother is out.

Does anyone really need wire strippers?

I dont need wire strippers, but for the £13 they cost I am sure going to use them. I can and have stripped wires with pliers, knife, etc, but strippers get it perfect every time in a couple of seconds on most jobs. A friend who is an electrician only uses his pliers, he is very fast and neat as...

    The Bicycle (Specialty) Tools Thread

I have done that on some seized posts in another shop in the past, but I have used my puller to remove posts that other shops have snapped off trying to twist out. Also need to be careful with the frame when twisting, the seat tube is reasonably strong in tension.

    The Bicycle (Specialty) Tools Thread

Yes the tool mounts on through the BB, so you could potentially pull a frame apart. I cut a vertical slot in a lot of the alloy posts seized in carbon frames before removal (made a depth adjustable hacksaw blade holder so I could cut a slot without damaging the frame) Its not a perfect tool...

    Workbench back-board ideas??

I have 8x4 sheets, 18mm? thick behind my workbenches. They were painted with garage floor paint. Tools are hung on screws, hooks and clips. Works well for me for tools that are used constantly, other tools are still in drawers. You can position tools wherever you want. My most used tools are...

Hiring a crew for an apartment demolition

Assuming your prices are correct, that is the price for you to manage the job and accept liability everything. If you get a company to do it, you need to add their profit, liability, damage repair/cleanup etc.
