    Higher than recommended HP

I just bought a band saw that didn't come with a motor. It recommends a 1/3HP motor. I have a 1HP motor already. Will using this motor create any problems? The RPM range will be the same as recommended. Thanks Randy

    260v at thermostate

I borrowed a klein meter from my neighbor and retested everything. The voltage at the thermostat was 246v. I guess when it come to a free multi meter, you get what you pay for.... Thanks Randy

    260v at thermostate

Re: 260v at thermostat I'll get some pic tomorrow and post them up. It'll probably read just fine and i'll look like an idiot. I believe the wire was 12 gauge. but I wasn't really paying attention to that. Randy

    260v at thermostate

The meter I'm using is a Harbor Freight special, so I don't have much confidence in it. The thermostat is an old top wheel type. When you take it out it has 2 black wires attached to it and what look like a red and a bunch of white wires in the box/space behind. Not sure about any more than...

    Detached Garage Power

Just curious. Why run a separate breaker box for the attached garage? Why not just run everything from your main panel? Thanks Randy

    260v at thermostate

The tester was set to the right voltage. I checked the voltage at the breaker and got 244v. Seems strange to get the high reading at the thermostat. NOT a fan of ceiling heat.... seems to only work half the time.

    260v at thermostate

Re: 260v at thermostat The circuit feeds two bedrooms from a 20A double pull breaker. I tested the voltage at the two wires connected at the thermostat, my multi meter reads 260v. I haven't tested at the breaker, just at the thermostat. Randy

    260v at thermostate

This doesn't have anything really to do with a garage but hope I can find some help. I am planning an upgrade to my homes main panel. I am in the process of mapping all the circuits in my current panel and stumbled upon something I'm not sure should cause concern. Two of the bedroom in my house...

20 AMP breaker/30 AMP safety switch?

No, its an old compressor and has no manual. I do however plan on wiring it through conduit which, if i'm not mistaken, one shouldn't use NM.

20 AMP breaker/30 AMP safety switch?

pattenp: It is based on the label located on the motor itself. I would gladly put it on a 30A breaker if that's a better option. Thanks.

20 AMP breaker/30 AMP safety switch?

pattenp: The compressor is rated at 3HP, the draw is stated at 13.5 AMPS

    480 Volt Breakers?

pool heater sound about right. I'd hate to pay that power bill. The pool is 28,000 gallons

    480 Volt Breakers?

They are not 480v breakers... my bad. They only have two posts but they span the whole length so I got confused. They each had two monster 2AWG wires coming out of them into the motor starter. They not for the pool pump, its ran off a 240v breaker. So I guess they were drawing 480v total not...

    480 Volt Breakers?

When I bought my house a little over a year ago it had two main panels. One for the house and another for the pool pump and light(main panel maxed out.) In the second main panel were two 480 volt breakers, one 100 AMP and another 125 AMP. Any idea what these would be used for? They were...
