The wall is 2x4 framed with fiberglass insulation. I need to end up with 6ga THHN for the conduit to handle a 7.5hp motor, could I just run the same THHN into the panel or would I need to run some 6ga Romex between the two and then head out to the conduit with the THHN?

Cool, thx. Granted, you couldn't drop the ****** very far when we're talking around 40" of lift, but I am hoping I can get a ****** jack under it and then raise it up just enough to pull it out- beats wrestling with it by hand any day.
