What did you do "IN" your garage today?

In my neverending search for more floor space, I decided to mount my hydraulic press on the wall so I can swing it out of the way when not in use. I fabricated some mounting brackets and an adjustable leg for the outside edge. The weight is primarily resting on top of the concrete frost wall...

Proto Tools Picture Thread - Post Yours!

I know this thread is primarily about vintage Proto tools, but these ratcheting box end wrenches are some of my favorite tools and should be vintage by the time my grandchildren inherit them.

Looking for a nice screw driver set

I just did a quick inventory and it looks like I have sets from about 6 manufacturers. I think the OP was looking for American made, but the German Wera with the anti-torque tips are my absolute favorites. Ergonomically, they feel great in the hand and I’ve never damaged a tip ever. These...

Does anyone use white board or chalk board in the shop?

No. It comes right off like a white board. A little Windex makes it just like new. I'm sure the paint finish plays a factor though.

Does anyone use white board or chalk board in the shop?

I use a dry erase marker on the inside of my garage door when I’m working on a project. Works just like a really big white board and it doesn’t take up any valuable wall space.

    Building a Mobile Bench

Next up is a rack for my angle grinders. I didn’t want them to hang outside of the cart, so I bent some flat stock to make an offset rack. Then it was off to the milling machine for some slots… A little booger-welding and I think I’m in good shape.

    Building a Mobile Bench

Next, I’m adding some places to store clamps and grinders. I put 2 flat bars on the front to hang some clamps from. I hung them 4“ below the frame so that I can access the locking bolts in my 2” receivers and also so that I can clamp things to the table top.

    Building a Mobile Bench

This is what happens when you just wing it and you don’t start with a plan. I decided to use expanded steel grate for the bottom to store various bits, but when I cut it to size, it became painfully clear that it was not going in there with all the other brackets and such welded in place. I...

    Roll-up clear vinyl curtain

I buy .5 mil clear plastic like you would use to mask a car during paint. I curtain off a portion of my garage when I’m going to grind or paint or cut. It’s crazy cheap so I can use it for a few days or weeks and then just throw it away. I prefer it over some more substantial reusable...

    Building a Mobile Bench

Back on all 4 wheels and starting to take shape. Now I’m trying to come up with a slide out shelf for my 150 lb rotary table.

Leatherman 40% off (Max 3 items) for First Responders, Medical Professionals, Military/Veterans, and Teaching Staff/Students

Legit. I entered my name, branch of service, and discharge date. 10 seconds later, I had a 40% discount code. I picked a couple tools , got the discounted price, and did some Googling to see if I could buy the tools elsewhere for the same price. I could not. The 40% discount looks like a...

Ultrasonic cleaner tips and fluids for various purposes?

I have a small ultrasonic that I use primarily for cleaning carburetor jets. I fill the ultrasonic bath with water, but then I place the jets in a small glass vial partially filled with carburetor cleaner. It’s flammable, but it’s submerged in water and there isn’t enough volume for me to be...

    Building a Mobile Bench

If you can’t be a good welder, at least be good with a grinder. There are still a few pin holes, but the face welds are purely cosmetic. I welded the back side of the lip as well. I may make another pass at these to hit those tiny holes.

    Building a Mobile Bench

The receivers are securely fastened to the table top, but I plan to brace them to the table frame with 1.5”x.25” angle iron once the table top is installed. I feel like it will be bomb-proof at that point.
