    Wiring a Remote Indicator Light

Hey all, My project to build a shed to house my air compressor is nearing completion and it is time to think about wiring. I have a 240 breaker ready to pop in the panel (the shop has its own mains supply) and I've got a chunk of proper armoured cable to run from the panel to the compressor...

Why are the spiders trying to drain your tank? Why are you fighting them with slip-joint pliers?

MaxJax Custom Install - Porsche 993

An update a year later. My slab hasn't moved, heaved, cracked, twisted, tilted, pivoted, or in any way misbehaved, even with 3800 lbs of Dodge Stealth on it. For a little while, the Wedj-it anchors would lose torque (ie, when I'd check torques, 1 or 2 bolts per column would need about a flat to...

MaxJax Install - Concrete too thin!

This is similar to what I did in the same circumstance, with the following differences: 1. My hole was 4' x 12' 2. I went with 9.5" - 10" thick on the slab 3. I pounded the rebar 6"-8" under the old slab in all directions 4. My key section was an inch or 2 I've had 3800lbs of car up on the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

First live use of the new MaxJax. Car goes up at 1900. New cat-back exhaust goes on the Stealth. Car drives away at 2100. Tools cleaned and put away by 2115. The lift is awesome.

MaxJax New Slab Pads - How Big?

The "long L" fitting is indeed supposed to have an O-ring. Mine did not. What I thought was a crush washer deformed into the o-ring groove and trashed the fitting - although happily, not the valve body. A new fitting from Parker solved the problem. I'm now leak free. I was seeing a little...

MaxJax New Slab Pads - How Big?

It's in! All the fittings are holding tight, save one - the "long L" at the lowering valve (bottom of the short hose) is leaking, and isn't responding to attempts to solve it. It's a weird fitting too; no flare, and it isn't NPT. Is there supposed to be an O ring in there? Is there a torque...

I used water; it did very little to mitigate the dust.

MaxJax Custom Install - Porsche 993

I wound up having to do something very similar - my floor was 3"-3.5" thick - and I heavily referenced this thread. My concrete guy was 84 years old (!) and had 60 years personal experience with concrete. He was quite the character.... I cut my slab 12' x 4'. I went a foot wider to provide a...

MaxJax New Slab Pads - How Big?

So I did it. Getting any contractor to return my calls was a serious PITA. Only two did; one quoted me $1400 or so, where the other (very professional, did up a full quote) quoted $3400. But my neighbour knew a guy - he did the floors in his shop. He's 84 years old and had been pouring...

MaxJax New Slab Pads - How Big?

14-15" deep seems like overkill... I'll buy the idea of spanning the posts with a single slab, so the rebar can tie the whole thing together. And I get that wider offers a better base to resist tippping. So a 4' x 12' plan form dimension makes sense. But I'd think that 8" should be more than...

MaxJax New Slab Pads - How Big?

So my wife got me a MaxJax. Today the rotary hammer showed up, and I went forth and started drilling anchor holes - only to find that the slab is maybe 3" thick. I tried setting an anchor anyway, and no joy - it hasn't pulled tight by the time it is flush to the floor. So I guess I'm going to...
