Now for the answer from Kathy at Kennedy:
This was part of our 90th anniversary line, only available for a short time. Model 525A
The lock for this chest is part number 80401.
So now we all know …, Model 525A
Think about it: toolbox size 520 with 5 drawers.
So much for deep secret naming...
The inside tab is the locking mechanism.... to lift it out, pull out the larger tab in front of the area in pic "from this one?" then pull out on the smaller locking tab.... takes at least 14 hands to do....
It should flex pretty easily.... over flex it and you will kink the metal and then you...
Yes, BOTH sides at one time....
You might want to use a small screwdriver ( nail, other small flatish thingie) to stick in each side to keep the tab in the right place, then pull out the drawer...
It is a pain.... but it works....
Just to follow up.. thee are NO markings on this except for the Graphic shown inside the lid. ( and the outside name KENNEDY on the top of the lid)
Flocking refers to what is apparently felt in the drawers. It goes from the top to bottom of all the drawers.
Waiting for THE Company to tell me...
Yes, the lower would be nice to own, but this was bought to use as a table top tool box..... in a loft wood shop.....
Is that blasphemous?
Out of curiosity, did Kennedy make 20 inch lowers in the 2001 time period? I thought they were always 26 inch or bigger.....
I looked at the drawer... it is flocked inside all the drawers all the way to the top of each.... no label.
But I will take a more thorough look tomorrow... maybe on the outside of that drawer?
Maybe in another drawer?
Underneath a drawer?
Well not completely true.... the article has a reference to the "Model 1911" tool boxes......
Maybe that is the model number for mine?
Apparently a special edition....?????
I just bought this toolbox, It was used for holding pens and other items for a draftsman.
There is no model number that I can find. It is the size of a 520, but the drawer configuration is wrong.
Inside the lid is a "decal" that shows a street scene and the markings indication the 90th...
