    Craigslist idiots.

I have never had a "bad transaction" when its actually happening and the people I have delt with have been honest people looking to make a deal happen. How ever the amount of bs delt with to get to that point is insane. People making offers at half a reasonable offer, seeing "damage" that...

Anyone keep their dog in the garage?

year and a half old 65lb plott/blue tick/lab mix and is just as happy outside with her invisible fence as she is inside. I sometimes get worried because she'll be shivering and lifting her paws but I almost have to drag her inside. At night she still sleeps in her crate for a couple reasons...

    Disposal of gas struts?

Let us know how they do it, if someone has a safe way, I'd be up for learning something. My guess is, they will look at you like you have 3 heads.. I understand your concern to be safe, but the fact is, there's very little that's safe about working on cars. Mechanics do all sorts of things...

    Disposal of gas struts?

If there getting replaced its probably because their weak. They get weak because the seals fail and then the gas/pressure gets released. I would just toss em. Go to any garage/dealership at any given time, and they don't even think twice about tossing them into the garbage/scrap pile. same...

    Air Compressor: Size or portability?

To me a 20 gallon isn't exactly portable. I have a 26 gallon 2 hp all cast iron, oiled unit and it is not something you want to move around all the time. Not that's impossible but when the thing weighs more then I do, It's not exactly fun to roll it around the yard or into the house. That...

3/8" impact - air or cordless?

You wont regret having both if you can, but if not I would start with a cordless. I have a blue point 3/8" cordless and used it a few times to take off lug nuts. I wouldn't say it enjoyed it, but for that occasional car out in the yard, it would do it(with a fresh battery lol) I also have a...

Why do so many seem to hate pegboard?

I think it has its place. My basement had a wall of it above work bench's when I bought the house and it works well since I only have a small second tool box down there. There was a spare sheet in the shed that I hung up and it's nice for hanging stuff like small engine fuel filters and other...

    Entry level tech tools

My advice is to buy as much gun as you can afford, that goes for most tools, you'll get to learn what you can cheap out on. It DOES NOT IMHO make sense to buy a 100 dollar gumby brand air gun that needs to be replaced in a year. I'm a huge fan of IR stuff, just as good as any snap on, mac etc...

Lead acid battery explosion when taken off charger

wow, that's odd... maybe a plate not properly mounted inside, shorted internally and boom. Sounds much like dropping a wrench across both terminals.

Lead acid battery explosion when taken off charger

When a battery is being charged or discharged, it emits a gas from the vents. In removing the charger you probably created a spark and the spark ignited the gas hanging around the battery. It's a pretty rare occurrence but this is why they say to hook your ground clamp to a chassis ground...

    Legalities of Doing Work

This thread is exactly why I never wanted to do side work... Now that my tools are retired I have even less desire to do side work... My tools are for my tinkering only, when I get the urge to tinker.

I played hooky from work today and...

My last job was at a small garage in an even smaller town, When we were busy we would work till the job was done, weather that was 3, 6 or even 9 a clock at night. During the winter we would slow down and since it was only 3 of us, we would rearrange our appointments and take either a day off...

    Garagejournal is great but.....Landscaping?

I have to second www.lawnsite.com it is a professionals site, so theres plenty of $80,000 landscaping installs but theres also a wealth of knowledge to be had, and a DIY forum.

do windows belong in a garage??

I like lots of natural light and air flow, I want as many windows as possible and still retain plenty of wall space. I also live in an area were crime is almost non existent, but to be safe I would put up some cheap blinds. I'm sure I would think different if crime were an issue.
