One welder, or two? MIG TIG

Hello internet! Knew you'd be along shortly. I stand by all my statements. Wind=FCAW (google it so you look smart trying to justify TIG in the same scenario), 3/4" thickness? who's welding that in their garage? Regardless, the good ol' lincoln tombstone won't do it either, so unless you have a...

One welder, or two? MIG TIG

This is why the internet *****. NO school teaches DC/TGAW on aluminum, and most give a no-go if you try. By the time you put enough amps to form a puddle, your tungsten is already balled up into the collet and if you keep going you'll need a new torch. Maybe a 70 year old IBEW guy can pull it...

One welder, or two? MIG TIG

$100 spool gun off of Amazon. TGAW aluminum requires A/C output, and even then it's a PITA. As soon as you move the puddle it oxidizes so you can't move back. Might as well MIG it unless it needs to be certified.

One welder, or two? MIG TIG

As far as process goes I would not want my only machine to be TGAW. TIG is just so slow for 99℅ of work that patching lawnmower blades, seaming trailer frame cracks, mending fences or hard facing a bucket would turn 2 hours into two days. A MIG is like a pickup truck, always useful. A TIG is...

    Service Tire Monitor System

Yup. Dead sensor. It's not uncommon or expensive. Make an appointment at a busy tire shop so they won't try to drum extra business out of you for your brakes or some nonsense. EDIT>>> it should cost ~$50 for a TPMS, don't fret if it's less, some shops want you to come back for tires so they do...

    Need advice Plasma Cutter

I've had a thermal dynamics drag-gun in 110 (20amps) and was really happy with it. At the same time I had an ESAB 480 machine I understand the limitations of the smaller unit. The drag-gun would slice up to 18ga clean, 1/8" would have some slag but a quick swipe with a grinder takes it off, and...

    Oil Absorbtion Mat

Pigmat is expensive for what it is. I never have a shortage of cardboard boxes so that's what I use. I agree with fixing the leak if you really love your car. It's not like one of my 40 year old jeeps that needs to mark it's territory.

Ideas for organizing my garage mess

hmmm. I imbedded from imgur because people couldn't see my stuff when linked from google images. says it's too big to imbed the image. So I'll just describe it to you. It's a shot of my garage looking way more cluttered, messy, and overwhelming than any of the pics you posted. It was meant as a...

    fire detection

I'm glad you brought this up since I've given it very little thought (ok, no thought) but completely recognize the need! At work we have optical fire sensors in the shop and automatic sprinklers (which ****, they're the little-red-stick-blocking-the-water type). I don't want those sprinklers in...

    Creeper Recommendations

I take one off and go to harbor freight so I can make sure the mounting stud or flange is same-same.

Here I go again, shop #2. Stick or Pole.....?

totally! but the guy in the shop in the picture doesn't drink whiskey, he's got a wine chiller just to the left of the television.:wtf: Now coiling a CJ and whiskey are shop activities I can appriciate! (I know that with my double digit post count, my opinion matters around here. If...

Here I go again, shop #2. Stick or Pole.....?

Whenever I see shops that look like that picture, I want to ask if I can come over and run in a new cam. After all, it's a shop right?

    Creeper Recommendations

I like my Z-creeper as it doubles as a shop stool, BUT t'were I 58 years young (only got 37years under my belt so far, but I'm working on it everyday), I'd probably want something a little more cushiony for a long haul under an Explorer. I use to have a Big Red Dogbone that was pretty...

Garage door opening spontaneously - only partially

My first thought is some radio signal (any HAMers nearby?) transmitting on a harmonic frequency to the garage doors reciever intermittently triggering the opener on and off real quick. My second thought is if your garage door opener has a pressure safety (if it feels pressure before the "down"...
