VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

That guy knew human nature very well. He knew if it looked nice early before he got there, someone would claim it. If it was a total mess, most folks wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole because they would have to clean it up before they could use it. That's some psychology right there! He must...

"Whats your favorite tool and why?"

My favorite tool, or the one that I always go to, is an old Craftsman slip joint plier similar to a Channel Lock. It was my Great Uncle's and it came to me when my great aunt died in the 70s. I think it must be from at least the mid 60s, but it could be older. I can't count the things I have...

    Atomic Bomb Ratchet

I just bought one just like it at an estate sale along with several sockets and a Proto breaker bar. I bought a half inch adapter so I can use it to destroy my 1/2 inch Craftsman sockets. :^)

What kind of hand gardening tools are in your garage?

I have 15 or 20 garden tools that are 100 years old or better. My parents bought an old house with a garage full of stuff used by the original owners. I just can't get rid of them....in fact I used one just the other day to dig around in the yard. One of the hoes is great because it is so light...

    Grease/oil buildup removal

Thanks for all the info everybody. I think even with the best products, I'll need a big ole can of elbow grease to go along with it......Some of the grease has been on there for 60 years.

    Grease/oil buildup removal

Hello folks, What is the best way to remove old oil and grease grunge from garage floors? my garage has the normal dark grungy spots from 60 years of cars dripping on the floor under the engine compartment. It has been there long before I came around and it is tough stuff.

Best/easiest way to bolt a safe to a concrete slab?

I just did this same thing not too long ago. I used 4, 1/2x5 inch concrete screws with heavy washers that are similar to Tapcons, but bigger. I cut two pieces of treated 2X6s for each side to get the safe off of the slab and let air circulate under it. I drilled through the 2X6s into the floor...

WILLIAMS Tools of Industry show yours and post any history or company details you can

I just bought a Williams 3/4 inch drive ratchet the other day. That sucker is huge. I got a Proto breaker bar, an extension, and 4 large sockets, too. I don't need them at all, but the price was so good at an estate sale, I couldn't pass them up. I think the next time my wife asks me to tighten...

    Stihl chainsaw (homeowner, firewood, etc)

I have a 20 year old MS250 Stihl that is going strong. If you need a step under a pro grade, but something that can handle some bigger jobs, it is a good choice. I put a step up larger bar on it with a more aggressive chain, and it will handle anything I need to do. You can't go wrong with Stihl...

Which DustBuster Hand Vac do you use?

I have a Ryobi drill and the battery fits a bunch of different tools they sell. I have their version of a hand vacuum. It works great and is easy to empty. I just used it to clean up our deer camp a little bit last weekend.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I don't have access to a real torch, so I have to dance with who brung me. I'm really loving this old hunk of iron and I'm getting a bit anxious about winning this battle. The only good thing is that it is still a very good stationary vice if I can't get it to swivel. I thought for sure it would...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Well.....I couldn't stand it so I tried to use the "mini jack" today with no luck. I felt like I had a real good push on it and tightened it until I was getting nervous. I beat on it with a copper hammer and heated around it as much as I could with a propane torch. This thing is "welded" in...

    Charles Parker 272 Refresh

I saw somebody on this forum that was selling repros of the collar in bronze. They are an exact match made from an original. Look around and you'll find it.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Thanks guys. I really love this old iron and would love to get started making it look **** again! :^) I was unsure exactly how the setup worked, but a little photo cleared it up. I was thinking of a turnbuckle type nut. I often over think things. Thanks again. It will be a while before I get to...
