To the best of my knowledge, patent is owned by Richard Macor, and licensed by Danaher (Now Apex Tool). Kabo was founded by James Hsieh. He's had some very interesting ideas, but Kabo is not a major industry player turnover-wise. You can search his patents under the name Hsieh, Chih-Ching.

The Danaher reversibles are made in Taiwan. They tried moving production to the PRC, and moved it back to Taiwan due to quality issues. Even at PRC labor costs, it would be a stretch to get an 8-piece set to 39.99 retail. Generally, you can get an idea of the FOB price for tool imports by...

Let me put it this way: At $39.99, somebody in the chain is not making any money. And I betcha it is Sears. Someday I'm gonna figure out what goes on in the heads of retailers.
