    The VISES of Garage Journal

The irony is that I bought a PowRarm a few years ago at a swap meet and sold it on eBay never expecting to own a baby bullet!

"S.R." Sockets? Can't seem to find any info.

I figure it's time to bump this thread to the front of the line and reignite the passionate discussion about what "S.R." stands for. And while I don't recall if I ever offered an opinion on the matter in the past, my mind is made up. I passionately opine that SR stands for Sear Roebuck which...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

It took more than a decade, but I finally found a baby bullet in the wild. It doesn't have a swivel base, which I would like to have, and it wasn't cheap at $200, but I'm happy with my purchase. Dated 9/46.

    The Descendants

I seem to recall a member of the Huot family chiming in about HUOT Manufacturing's history of contracting with retailers. Edit: John Huot has posted a few times in response to questions about their tool boxes

    Show your "Long C" Craftsman!

This is my Dunlap box, which matches the catalog illustration.

    Show your "Long C" Craftsman!

Even without an official source, I think years of collecting has trained you (us) to recognize tool manufacturing eras quickly and accurately. I have never attempted to research the manufacturer, so can't offer an opinion on who made it. Edit: I misread the meaning behind you comment. I...

    Show your "Long C" Craftsman!

I just realized ... you paid full retail price for your box!

    Show your "Long C" Craftsman!

I never put much faith into artist's renderings, as you no doubt understand, but I think it's close enough! Here's mine which I'm guessing had the hardware painted by a previous owner. I'm also attaching images from both the 1943 and 1944 catalogs for comparison. The Dunlap box, on the other...

    Show your "Long C" Craftsman!

1943-44. There are two versions of the "Fabricoid" covered plywood & sheetmetal machinist's tool box - Craftsman and Dunlap, as was already shown (I own both). Presumably, these were made out of necessity due to war time rationing. -Brian

    Vintage Craftsman tool box.

If you're thinking about restoring it, I would vote against it. It is, I believe, a unique Craftsman tool box (as in, the only one known to the rabid tool collecting community), and keeping it as original as possible will preserve any potential value. And unless you have a legitimate concern...

    Vintage Craftsman tool box.

I have the same Craftsman catalog DVD but welcome the help. Even though I looked at every catalog from 1932-45, one can get snow blindness while scrolling through so many catalogs. That logo was used throughout the 1930s and towards the end of WWII. The biggest clue to the age of the box is...

    Vintage Craftsman tool box.

*bump* Does anyone have any thoughts about this box? Do any of you recognize this design; was it sold under another design? Thanks!

Sounds good! I won't have access to FB for a couple hours, but if you reply to the same thread you started on FB, I'll be able to find them easily. Cheers!

    Vintage Craftsman tool box.

Since I pointed you here from the FB collector's page, I'll post the same photos for you when I get home this evening - unless, of course, you're able to do so before then. For the rest of you, you're going to want to see this box. It's one I've never seen from any manufacturer, let alone...
