    Cope- from that picture your vise looks really clean and would be pretty darn nice after some elbow grease and paint. It looks like slide isnt all beat up either. Very nice.

    Veeps- correct, the ends have male threads, like a lollipop. D- thanks, its a great lathe, even after so much time in service(1942), its still strong. Cant say that about too much, except oh yeah, vises. The wrench is driving a 7/8 tap. Ill include a pic of handle ends for those interested...

    Thanks Kevin, No fixture, the ball ends are made from one solid peice. Tirn the threads, turn half of the ball, hold on the threads, finish the other half of the ball. Using threaded rod and balls would be way easier.

    And you are right, 7/8-9 is no joke. Thats a 15in wrench. Tapping the locks. By the way, old reeds are double lead 7/8. At least steelkilts old 4c is.

    I have a pretty decent collection of clamps, ill have to throw a pic up here tomorrow. I buy them when they are priced right. Paid 5 bucks this weekend for a Williams 103 Vulcan. Those are my favorite style. Im always on the look out for the square screw and and fine threads.

    VA- yeah, youre right about practice. Those big drills are tough to get cutting right. Easier on a belt grinder unless you have a monster grinding wheel. Those bits are not for the drill press.     VA- the ridgid is 3.5" jaws, around 40lbs. I did alright, almost felt a little bad. Got this Heinrich 8SV for 50 bucks. Finally have an acceptable vise for my edlund drill press.
