    Attached 14x20 carport

hell fish, before you use pressure treated, do some research to make sure the chemicals in the lumber will not react negatively with the steel. When you are covering wood with aluminum, the aluminum is clearly labeled to not be used with pressure treated lumber. Bob

    Framing question

Your best bet is to have an engineer design the fix for you. In my area, the engineer would charge you around $250 - $300 for this service. Sounds high, but it relieves you of a lot of worries in the future. Bob

    Basement flooring options.

John, I just installed the same product, but the design on what I used looks like ceramic tile. I put it in a kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. You are right, it installs easily, requires almost no preparation, and is waterproof. I think it is a great product for a location that may get wet...

Hard hard concrete. How to attach base plate?

Richard, on the holes where the nail does not hold well, drive two nails in at the same time. Use stout nails, and they will be there permanently. Granted it is a little tough to get both to go in straight, but you can do it. Bob

adding a pocket in my ceiling...

Sparky, was your work done with input from an engineer? Being a general contractor, I'm very hesitant to modify/cut/move an engineered truss without an engineer stamping/sealing and/or designing the work being done. Thanks, Bob

Biker, go to a real lumber store, not Home Depot or Lowes for your treated lumber. They should be able to supply you with ground contact treated lumber. Bob

    power tool repair

That's one of the things I don't like about Craftsman power tools. After a few years, they don't have parts available. I had to discard a really nice cordless drill because new batteries could not be purchased. That was before I knew about places like Batteries Plus that would re-build the...

Question about Racedeck Freeflow tiles and their use.

Has anyone used the racedeck flooring in a garage where a tractor is stored? I'm concerned about the ribs on ag type tires on a tractor, and what impact they may have on racedeck flooring. Thanks, Bob.

    400A All-In-One

I had something similar done at my place. After the rough-in electrical inspection by the county inspector, the electrician pulled the meter, did what he needed to do, then put the meter back and sealed it himself. He then called for the final inspection. The power company never set foot on...

    Home Inspectors

As a licensed home inspector, let me tell you the requirements to get a license in North Carolina. In order to sit for the licensing test, you must be either a licensed general contractor; an engineer; or an architect. Once you prove your credentials, you can take the 4 hour test to become a...

Building in NC, Pole or Steel frame ?

I have a neighbor with a Morton building. He had the foam spray installed to prevent the metal from sweating. He was concerned that standard batts and cellulose would get wet and loose their insulating capacity - his Morton rep agreed with him. The spray foam is nice, but costly. If you use...

Building in NC, Pole or Steel frame ?

RattytatTom, I also received a quote from Morton. By the time I added in all the foundation work I had to do prior to them starting; the cost of the slab; all the options that needed to be added to the basic Morton building (insulation; overhanging eves; adding wood framing to the inside for...
