Looking for advice on a Simplex 61S that I picked up on Craigslist last weekend. The vise is in decent shape and the guy I got it from said he had it for over 50 years and it functions fine. The thing that I don’t like is the lead screw retainer at some point was damaged and replaced with a...
I bought the same Prentiss model vise a few years ago from a craigslist ad along with a 4" cheapo Chinese vise. Bought them both for $65. I kept the Prentiss and gave away the Chinese vise. I guess prices have gone up, along with everything else.
Thanks again to all of you. Most of the vises I've come across have not been as big as this vise. All the smaller vises I've seen had a round base and a round swivel. I guess that when you get to the larger size vises that there are more options.
Thanks Mslund1, the reason I was confused was the part of the base under the dynamic jaw. All the swivel vises that I have seen where the stationary jaw sits on the swivel they are symmetrical. This vise the stationary jaw that meets the swivel is oval shaped and has what looks like a mounting...
I bought this vise a few days ago and when I got it to the garage it was night time and I had to take it apart so I could get it out of the trunk. I got it to the garage and put it back together and snapped a picture. As I was looking at the picture today I noticed that somebody at some point...
I am trying to find a Reed 2C swivel base for my Reed 2C vise. I bought the vise with a weld repair on the swivel base at a very reasonable price, its usable but I would like to replace it.
Wow TWW, that"s a great newer work bench. Yes both vises are wood screw. I will check for a makers mark inside the vise. Thanks for the advise on paste wax, I was told to use linseed oil. But after seeing your work bench I think I'll go with the paste wax.
Maybe my grandfather, he passed before I was born and my father(deceased) never mentioned that he or his father built it, so I would say probably not, but maybe.
