Suggestions for my welding cart project in progress

Not sure on age or eyesight, but I would suggest angling the welder "tray" up a bit. Makes adjustments much easier while working, less bending over to try and read settings and so on.

Got a 1" NPT Tap? Wanna help?

I say " live rubber" more as a generic shop term, we use lots of bulk rubber at the foundry I work as well as other materials - over the years "live rubber" has become a catch all term. Maybe a nylon would be more robust allowing you to get a very tight bond along with an appropriate sealant. I...

Got a 1" NPT Tap? Wanna help?

I see, so your concern is that you want to mount the fitting in the radius portion of the tank to get the drain as low as possible. Is that correct? Maybe trying to locate a large/thick chunk of live rubber that you could form your radius into? Or mounting the fitting as low as possible before t...

Got a 1" NPT Tap? Wanna help?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JQQFW2/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Maybe this may work for what you're describing? I'm curious now also!

Filler Rod Rack for Miller TIG

Nice! I am tossing around something for my Dynasty 350. Though I doubt I'll need the variety that you're dealing with. Clean, simple...spot on.

    Flux for welder

As YOU stated, YOU WANT TO .02x size wire, that you have a few other machines for heavier jobs, so why keep trying to change your mind?!?!...... I've used both the 100 and 125 amp Lincoln with flux core and I've found that using a high quality wire with the bigger machine yields the best...

    some arc welding pics

Pretty good for just starting out. I prefer to run a 6011 root on plate and 6010 root on pipe. 1/8" rod for the 60XX rod then down to 3/32" for the 7018 hot and cap passes. Going into my 20th year as a Journeyman Millwright, burned miles of rod through the years. The only way you'll get better...

    Show us your welding projects

Anytime! Hardest thing to learn when welding is how to "read" the weld puddle and make your adjustments. There are many ways to achieve the effects you're after, as they're all subtle changes at this point. No right or wrong, other than not practicing. I had a welding instructor tell me years...

Welding Table - Square Tube Size

I wouldn't be concerned about lack of strength, as you are not obviously and correctly, because the material will be plenty strong for what you intend to use the table for. The weight will be the "issue". I would argue that not for beating something with a hammer, but when/if you mount your...

    Show us your welding projects

Pretty late for a comment, but I'll give one anyway. Looks pretty good, maybe a touch fast on travel speed. Slow up just a bit, add a very subtle weave and you'll have a perfect weld puddle. And as others have said, the deposits are a simple by-product of the welding process and are perfectly...

    Copper Air Line Questions

As someone who deals with this all the time, you would cut two new threads, period. A union, short ****** of any length, and a tee. Easy, no big deal. As far as black pipe and copper's " lack" of durability, if you've somehow damaged the copper to the point of failure, in a home shop you were...

    use of 14/3 wire

Perhaps there was a plan at one time to finish the basement and/or hang a ceiling fan at that location. One of the load leads would power the light portion of the fan separately via a second switch. This allows for the fan and light to be independent of each other.

    Copper Air Line Questions

I guess I would also like to add, as have others, that threading black pipe by hand can be somewhat of a pain. A good quality cutting lube and a good threading die goes along way in making that job easier though. I would also counter that modifying or adding to a black pipe system is really the...

    Copper Air Line Questions

As a "second" to this post, let's not over think things here! I would like to add, as a Journeyman Millwright for the last 20 years, I would install a main header "loop" and have drop legs. This prevents water/debris from collecting at the ends of a run and stabilizes pressures. A 3/4" header...

Has anyone completely ditched air powered tools?

Well, my first post here. So here goes.....I'm and avid hobbyist and a Journeyman Millwright and I also would agree with most in saying no to ditching air- ever! That being said I do use my M18 stuff pretty regularly at the foundry where I work. I have burned up both the 3/8" and 1/2"...
