Thanks Shiftless. The C2 pipe jaws do look like they would work. I see they are on backorder. But $250 per set..... that's more than I paid for the vise. But thanks anyway.
THANKS RTM. Your posting of the catalog has cleared up a mystery I've wondered about for years. I could never figure out Wilton's letter/number designations for their vises.
This is the 4.5" vise that I gave to my buddy to make room for the 5" C2. 4.5 had no pipe jaws. The date on the 4.5 vise is 6/30/65. Date on the 5" with pipe jaws is 1/70.
If I could get a chunk of steel the right size I could make one. Anybody here got a chunk of oil-hardening tool steel 3-5/16ths X 1-3/4 X 1-1/4?
The date on the slide is Jan of 1970.
Thanks ExMaxima. I had always wondered what C1 and C2 meant. So C1 is an ordinary Wilton machinist vise, and a C2 is a machinist vise with pipe jaws? Do I have that right?
This is a 5" Wilton basket case vise that I saw on ebay and I took a chance, and it turned out to be a winner, but it only had one pipe jaw. I've looked all over the innerwebs for one and have come up empty handed. Anybody here have one, or know where I could get one for a reasonable price?
Its rubbing where the spindle exits the dynamic, but the problem is deeper in the vise.
One idea I had was to put the spindle in my buddy's lathe and turn about 10 to 15 thou off the OD of the spindle section that the horseshoe washer pushes against. I'm betting 10 to 15 thou, which would...
I didn't give much thought to whether the roll pins would mis-align the nut, but since I put them in, I've wondered if I should replace them with something better. Thanks for the part number. I'll order a pair and see if that helps. I know the screw is not bent.
I've taken chances on ebay &...
This is my old daily driver--a 4-1/2" Wilton Machinist vise with swivel base, but in the 30 years I've owned this vise, I never used the swivel..... well maybe once I used it. But I gave it to my buddy whose Chinese-****-vise was giving out. I replaced this vise with the 5" in the above pictures.
