I looked closer at the pliers that started this thread, don't know if it's the photo or not but the shape of the handle and the shade of green make me think that they may not be original Channellock coating.
I agree on the channellock blue handles aging to a green color, unfortunatly I've had some long enough to see it every time I open the plier drawer. I also remember being able to order with or without coated handles. Used the same part number , just added G for the coated handles.
I have a Mac Tools M1R ratchet for sale, been in a drawer unused over 25 yrs. It has been cleaned & oiled to be sure it works in both directions. Thanks for the space.
My first torque wrench is a Sturdevant beam type. Every now & then i'll torque something with it and check it with a clicker, it's always there within a couple pounds. Just nostalgia though, can't make rate with the beam type.
During my tool truck days I encouraged customers to dunk ratchets in ATF. It would clean and lube the ratchet but nothing beats popping it apart and cleaning by hand. A battery terminal brush does a nice job cleaning the head of a fine tooth round headed ratchet. It was a bit of a mystery to me...
Hi Old Smokey, Glad the spring took care of the problem, your original spring was replaced with this design and seemed to work much better. I've tried a lot of ways to lubricate a ratchet and feel that the best lube I found was automatic transmission fluid. It worked best on the fine tooth...
Hi old smokey, Have you tried the new spring yet? That would usually take care of the reversing problems. If the teeth on the pawl have rounded a bit it can cause slippage . Hope the spring cured it. Rogermac
