The replacement is going to be Indian or Chinese trash. What's your time worth?
This is almost an equivalent:

A lot of the Old Craftsman ratcheting wrenches were the same as Armstrong.
They love jer king each other off about how wonderful their ICON G2 Ratchets are too! I'm sorry but I don't think 2 ICON ratchets will even last half as long as a Dual 80. The math just doesn't math. If you want to throw some ICON in your break down box or home kit; go for it. But as a Snappy...
I used to be a "If it ain't Snap-On it ain't Sh1t" type of guy (I still hold them in high regard). But I've found that there's some stuff out there as good or better! The Mac RBRT or USAG 285-X branded version of the same wrench is a fraction of the price of SO Flank Drives: $128...
The craziest thing I ever broke that wasn't a low end junk tool to begin with, was a Greenlee Carbide Cutter drilling into a Stainless Cabinet the thing just shattered, never would have expected that from a pro level tool.
One often overlooked aspect of "Quality" is consistency; and that's my biggest gripe with HFT. Today you might get a deal on a solid set of Pittsburgh that's as good as anything else but a year from now that same set will come from a completely different supplier I've heard it can even vary...
I picked up an awesome underhood rechargeable LED light from Menards for like $50 or less:
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NBCCL801 but NAPA wants $236!
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but from what I've seen the Wrenches and ratchets seem to be nearly identical to some of the stuff...
I regularly see the Cornwell truck in our town (That's his truck below). MATCO and Snap-On come around occasionally too but not nearly as regularly as the Cornwell guy. I have never seen a MAC truck in Colorado.
I don't work in a facility that is serviced by the trucks so I have no clue on...
Heavy Machine Tools of the 1930s are far better than anything that is available today.
The machining tools that NASA contractors used to build the Saturn Rockets, Space Shuttle ET and now the SLS and Orion CEV are all repurposed machinery from the 1930s and 40s (the welding tools are much more...
It'll be sad if that's really the future for the next generation. Hopefully the young ones that are willing to get their hands dirty and learn how to rebuild and repair things will be able to make enough money to live comfortably as it seems there's fewer and fewer of those people everyday...
Try eBay! I went on there recently to see if I could find a set of the Made in USA Craftsman Professionals and HOLY $%!T they are selling for insane prices more than their S-K or Armstrong Equivalents! Anything that's -V-, VV and less so VA are bringing decent money, not really sure about the...
When was that? 40+ years ago? I agree on cost & robustness they don't break and were cheap. They might have been effective working on a 74 Dodge Dart but in tight spaces they're atrocious with the coarseness huge arc swing and lots of back drag. CP does a good job of ranting on these old...
