The Best Ratchet Lube Has Been Discovered

Don't know if anyone cares, but my experience with all Super Lube products is they are dismal to say the least. Yes they work, but mostly they are cheap and overrated. Spend a few extra dollars and get Molykote products. The EM30L works fantastic...

How many ratchets do you own?

I must have 50. Various Craftsman USA made from the 70s-90s, a few round head SK from USA from early 2000s, about 8 Nepros, at least 10 Snap-on, two Tekton, two KTC 3/8 roto heads, 2 Titan 1/4 roto heads, about 8 Koken, both the asahi lightool, Probably more I'm forgetting. Most I never use. I...

You can replace nicad batteries with nimh and use the original charger. Works fine. The tools I have with nicad had AA size batteries in the pack. I just buy Eneloops and solder them and make a replacement battery. I know the safetycrats will disagree. I've got 10 more years out of my old Metabo...

Shear pins at about $2.50-$3.00 each probably won't cause anyone major economic strain, but it seems like a product that is not rocket science or needs to break at exactly 312lb of force or whatever. Of course you don't want to replace with a grade 8 bolt, but if you use a cheap bolt it will...

Can we completely replace our combo wrenches with ratcheting ones yet?

Snap on are the only ones that can compare to a standard box end. All the others are way too fat. The various manufacturers who offer ratcheting wrenches with the extended lip are decent, but not going to replace a box end wrench. All others with like a 2" wide head to drive a 1/4" bolt are more...

    Recommendations for a torque screwdriver?

I have the CDI 3-15 in/lb and Proto 7-36 in/lb, but nowadays they are too ridiculous priced to consider, but they work real good. Like anything, I'm glad I purchased before covid ruined the world, as between the two i'm only invested $200 or so.

    Tools of Japan

The older Koken Wobble-Fix was mostly wobble only on a lot of sockets, even Koken built sockets. I bought both the 1/4 and 3/8 sets and don't like them one bit. Later after this I bought both sets in standard without Wobble-Fix. For me this was a great improvement. I threw the Wobble-Fix into...

    De/ re-Soldering alternator rectifier - Hakko FX888 ?

Some soldering irons are just plain garbage. They can be rated at "***" watts that seem high enough, but once the tip touches the solder it can't keep up with demand and cools down faster than it heats and you don't have a good experience to say the least. I have two Metcal stations that use the...

    Electronics repair as a hobby

Yea, you're well known among pinball folks. A pinball machine is a good example of a product that is generally well designed and made with repair in mind, and for good reason, as they do need repair to continue the enjoyment. The restaurant/bar next to where I worked let me work on the machines...

    Electronics repair as a hobby

I was in the electronics repair business for 34yrs, primarily TVs. Had to give it up because virtually nothing is worth repair anymore, but if you do it for yourself and buddies there is still a lot of good in it. I never throw anything out until I at least give repair a shot, and still enjoy it.

What are the best shop vac models?

Shop vac is good enough, but the brushes wear out and they don't sell any parts. All parts for every model, even current models are obsolete. This really grates on me, as no way parts are obsolete when you can buy the entire vacuum. I threw out like 6 of them for bad brushes. You can buy...

    Battery Chargers

A power supply as a battery charger works great, but of course you must remove it after the battery is fully charged. Generally the best charge rate on a lead acid battery is 1/10 the AH rating of the battery, so one of my motorcycle batteries is 10ah, another one is 20ah, so depending on which...

Koken Surface drive vs Flat drive sockets

It's hard to describe or understand, but the sloppy fit is necessary by design and works great, but any socket that doesn't fit tight to the bolt is never going to be acceptable to most unfortunately.

Koken Surface drive vs Flat drive sockets

The surface drive works great, but 95% of users will always diss it as **** because it doesn't fit tight onto the bolt. 95% of users don't understand the concept, and never will so the entire idea is never going to be acceptable.
