    Sun Diagnostic Machines

Hey it's 2020 :-) . I 'm in Australia and I have a VANE 3080 analyser. It's an Australian made copy of a sun i think. So i'm looking for a timing gun and any circuit drawings for the CRT scope. My machine was bought from the estate of the First owner and I haven't plugged it in yet. I also...

How do you store petrol in your garage?

Work place health and safety laws here say I cannot keep it sitting around so it has it's own cabinet in case of fire. Cars that are being worked on,(resto etc ) have no fuel tanks until they are nearly finished. paint and other flameable stuff has it's own cabinets .These are damned expensive...

I am "one of those guys" having served my Apprenticeship in Railways workshops a long time ago.Everything was the same, I can smell the smoke when I watch the rods being milled.... The princess Royals were quite capable of 120MPH.

Barn Finds (cars and other vehicles)

I no longer have any pics of it,but 40 years ago in New Zealand one of my mates in the Papakura Hot rod club built one of those vans with a mid mounted 292 Y block V8 and a Humber super-snipe four speed trans and, I think, a Vanguard diff. Walters Vanwas Dark blue and quite a nce looking...

How to flatten out a car hood?

They have been rolled flat . You don't need a press to flatten them, just a set of plate rollers as used by Boiler makers.

    Plasma Cutter questions

Thats a good machine but thermal dynamics **** when it comes to customer service . I have a PAK cutmaster 50 which I needed to buy a new torch for . it has taken me one full year to get the torch required, the adaptor kit and then the repair kit for the connection to the power pack. And this...

Cheapest flare wrenches that work, or just get crowsfoot flares?

A friend of mine was on vacation in the UK and saw these things made by hazet being used on rusty brake pipes and got me to import a full set for him...these are eye bleeding expensive...but made to last forever and work brilliantly.

Cheapest flare wrenches that work, or just get crowsfoot flares?

Take it from me,the cheapest never work. Get the best you can afford even if you have to save a few weeks to get them, and my recommendation is the Snap on LW 204 .They fit most flare nuts on fuel and brakes most folks will ever encounter. I work on a lot of cars every day which can be fifty...

Refurb on old building for shop and living

I am seriously jealous. As third generation railroad employee (formerly) I can relate to former Railroad buildings, most of which were built to a formula.." if in doubt build it bigger.." Those sash weights for the doors are a good example and the style is really timeless. I would be great if...

How To Chose The Tools You Need In 1957

I only use snap ons special brake wrenches, those things that look like pocket knives. I served my Apprenticeship in the early 1970's and tools back then were seriously expensive. Even so we were paid a tool allowance by the company as part of our "contract" as Apprentices. We were...

    Let's see your hand truck/dolly!

I find it interesting.. Many years ago I was the cheif engineer at a saw mill and the economics of the time meant the boss couldn't afford to buy us a trolley , So we made a couple in the shop. hard to think of that today when I can go to the local autoparts store and they have them for...

    My garage/shop, always evolving!

Re: My garage, repurposed! Was your dad in the Army engineers as a carpenter? .That looks like the type of tool box that trainees were expected to make ,to learn how to use machine tools and make joints.
