It is design drawings. Serves 2 purposes: 1- Make sure it's what I Want. 2- Pricing.
I asked if they were engineered drawings and he said no, those would be additional. Dealing with home builders is a lot different than dealing with commercial contractors.
So I reached out to the builder to start design on garage for pricing and budgeting. They are requesting design price ($6K) to be paid up front. Is this standard? I said I would rather pay on progress and they aren't having it on the design service. I've never paid up front for engineering...
Slow progress here. Little annoyed with NewAge because they had no idea what size bolts I needed for their bench tops. They said they only had the same production date in stock that I had....which means every person that gets a 60" workbench top will have the wrong bolts sent to them. First...
All valid points. There will still be stairs so able bodied people will be able to use those. I don't think she's going to be hosting parties with other 90 year olds who all have to use the elevator one by one. Keep in mind that either setup would be a compromise for everyone involved. This...
I was going to stack them. I need all the space I can get. Lot of vehicles and power sports. If I could afford it, I would build a 20 car garage.
What's the point of needing an elevator large enough for a stretcher? Elevator is for resident to move up and down under their own power.
Interesting points. I don't really do much hammering and loud work in my garage though. It's more for storage of vehicles and light mechanic work. I don't weld and paint. Besides, the apartment would be separate from the garage. It's not like her bedroom is going to be direct access to the...
Both good points.
I would put the stairs inside. I would think a fire rated entryway would be required to separate stairs from garage.
It would look too much like an apartment building then. I would keep stairs inside.
Yes, I have seen many apartments with garage underneath and a fire...
Most of the ones I've seen actually run off battery and only use the power to charge the batteries. Our home does have a generator, but it only has 80 hours on it and it's 8 years old. Most of that time was probably weekly run cycle. We don't loose power much luckily.
Good points.
She liked the idea. I was thinking one of those chair things, but she said elevator (when I asked if she would be ok living on 2nd floor). I looked into it and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
My home only has a powder room at ground level. We could convert dining or...
Of course. One of the main deciding factors of choosing this house was the location in which the village allowed me to build a large detached garage. Many locations in my area would not allow it. The building department has been very responsive over the past year while I planned what I want...
I am looking to build a 4 car garage with apartment (for my MIL).
Looking for suggestions on this. Ideally apartment would on first floor for aging MIL to avoid stairs. She has a hard time going up them now. Drawback- The garage looses a ton of floor space unless I make the footprint huge...
