    The VISES of Garage Journal

I've seen them in a few auctions and on Kijiji but never in person. They look very similar to Record's design to me. Ron

Trailer, nice 204 you have there. It must be a different vintage than mine, mine has the sliding bars on the lock downs. They seem to be pretty rare, yours and mine are the only two of this style that I've come across. I've attached some pics of mine now that the refurb is complete. Ron

Twagler and shiftless, I have a RAE 204 and ithas the same beefy lock downs. I've made new handles for mine because they were missing. Twagler, that RAE in the pic does not look like a 7 inch wide jaw to me. I'm no expert, but I have followed up on some ads for vices and discovered that people...

FF, great job on the Parker! Personally, I'm not thrilled with the colour, and I agree about the "hammered" thing. I just used hammered silver on one of mine, it just looks like regular silver to me :dunno: As for storing/displaying that 272, maybe a couple of nice wood blocks? Ron

Nope, it's screaming "off shore import" to me though. The stand looks interesting, looks like it might be adjustable height. Ron

Here's where my 434 1/2 project stands at the moment. Everything is back together but still no collar. Thanks to akasrick sharing the measurements from his, I'm going to tackle some sort of temporary collar for it. After the slide was stripped of that green paint, I discovered a brand repair...

Matt, great job on your Reed! Did you use BLO or clear coat? I looked through my pics of my Reed when it was disassembled but I don't have any of the nut. I was focused on finding the date stamp for the Reed thread. Ron

Rick, I'll be sure to have a good look at the main nut to see if there's any similar markings. It's definitely the same style, dovetail and pin, as the Reed. Ron

Shiftless, if there is, I might sign up :D When I first started posting on GJ I had two, one of which I've had since the 80's. I now have 12 or 13 it's getting harder to remember the exact #. I also need a 12 step for metal cabinets, grinders and signs. Ron

Outlaw, I made that post from my phone, then I couldn't find the edit button. So next time I'll take more time to find that edit button. I've ordered both roll pins and tapered pins from McMaster-Carr, I'll report back as which ones work best. Ron

Matt, yes RAE is/was a Canadian company based in Hamilton, so not that far from Erie PA. Here's a link to a bit of company history http://progress-is-fine.blogspot.com/2013/06/one-of-my-vices-is-vices-rae-revisited.html Maybe there was some collaboration during WW2? I tore it down today to...

I believe I have a new listing for the spreadsheet. It's a Rae 204 but the weight of this one is 59 lbs. Probably an older version, I'm thinking 1940's maybe? It looks (to me at least) very similar to a Reed. Jaws: 4" Opens to: 5 1/2" Weight: 59# Swivel: Yes Ron
