    “For display only”

I love the idea of using a hundred years old spokeshave and it still works better than a new one would. These are tools and made for use. I also open paint cans with my granpa's old screwdriver. It has no value as a screwdriver anymore but I kind of thing that the legacy lives on by using it...

    Show us your handplanes

This is my latest "restoration". Unfortunately I never have the patience to take the "before"-pictures. It's an old plane that was salvaged some years ago from a long forgotten mansion that is rotting away, swallowed by the forest near my summer cabin. Under a thick layer of dust and dirt I...

    Swedish pliers.

I have similar too! There's also text "Musical wire" stamped on the other side. I use them to cut my guitar strings. I don't know how I have managed to do that before with regular pliers that are not specially designed for musical wire...

    multi wrenches; bicycle etc

Went through my tools and found these. The two on bottom left I actually bought somewhere when I was fixing an old bike I found in a barn. The rest I have just found later or gotten with other unsorted boxes of tools. When servicing the bearings of bike wheels you actually have to have these...

    multi wrenches; bicycle etc

...some googling afterwards (slow day at work): "Lamps & lanterns " piqued my curiosity. Apparently there's a whole word of tools for lamps, lanterns, stoves and such: https://terry-marsh.com/wrench-other-lamp-tool-manufacturers-a-f/...

    multi wrenches; bicycle etc

Top row, second from the left is so called torpedo wrench, for servising german made torpedo rear hubs (for bicycles). You can manage with one but usually they go in pairs. The square part fits the end of the axle, and the hook is needed for opening/tightening the locknuts. This is actually...

    Let's see your axes

Harder steel is inlaid only for the blade parts. There's no use wasting it on the whole axe head. Rest of the head is made of softer steel and I guess the hole for the handle is easier to make that way too. These two steels corrode differently and react differently to acids and stuff. You can...

    Let's see your axes

depends what you use for blasting... Anyway there's not much logos to save on the heavily corroded one. The others will get a gentler treatment.

    Let's see your axes

Some recent findings... Just can't help myself. These are old, made in Finland. All worn on the toe. I already have better ones but lets see if they can be refurbished. Maybe some blasting first. One mystery axe... Design looks russian or eastern european but not shure. Needs some cleaning up...

    Tools from Nordic countries

Nice finds! E.A Bergs are quite common in Finland... Sadly the ones you find in thrift stores or barns have been more often used as paint can openers or for spreading plaster than for woodworking. They can still be easily refurbished if the blade is straight (these also seem to be a popular...

    Tools from Nordic countries

Here's a 1928 Billnäs tool catalogue from Finland: https://digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi/pienpainate/binding/338807?page=1 I'll try to put some pictures of my Swedish and Finnish tools once my summer vacation starts. Billnäs, Fiskars, Kellokoski (also known as Mariefors bruk in swedish) and...

    Old Volvo and Saab tools

The image is quite small but from what I gather, SVO is not a tool brand, it just means "volvo special tools". These are probably some dealer mechanic tools for volvo repairs. There should read SVO and then some numbers. Found some lists: https://www.volvoenthusiastsclub.co.uk/tools/tools.htm...

    Tool Rolls

Tools rolls are a must have for chisels and other sharp things. keeps 'em sharp and protects my fingers. Thrift store leather jacket's are good material too for making your own rolls.

    Multiples of same tool

Exactly! Some tools I need in the car, some tools in the house. But I also have a bicycle repair toolbox and a guitar repair toolbox that are always ready to go, so that I don't need to pack any tools if I need them outside the house. Still my wife complains that she can never find any of the...

    Hammer time!

Just wait 'til you see my pliers! I've got still three sledgehammers (made in Finland), few engineer's hammers and one soviet hammer waiting for handles. I'm hoping to run out of handle wood soon so that I can focus on my chisels...
