Mine had a thin rubber coating over the metal. I took a utility knife and stripped it off. It comes off pretty easy then shined it up with a finer wire wheel brush followed by a bunch of clear coat.

Wow now that I counted it up I have about 20 hours in it. My first go at it so I think next time I can about cut the time in half.

Go for it man. I think we are in the same boat. This was my first project as well. This craftsman box is pretty easy to work on. Use a wire wheel brush drill attachment and take it down to the bare steel. A Dremel type tool is recommended as well.

It's the black Pittsburg one. It has a swivel head. I got it for around 10 bucks and it worked great for what I needed it to do. It was the first time I used a riveter so I don't have anything to compare it to but it worked well.

Thank you! It is rustoleum hammered lite blue. The only place I could find it around town was at Ace Hardware. The red is just rustoleum gloss red. Finished it all off with rustoleum glossy clear coat.
