It's been a while since the estate sale gods shined so favorably upon me. A local sale 10 minutes away promised "lots of tools!", but from the photos, looked like 90% modern imports. There was one blurry photo, however, that promised something special (and more) - a BIG green Giller Tools socket...
I think I went to that same sale. Too pricey, but that didn't stop me from over-paying for a late-30s None Better S53 1/2" breaker and the beatup late-50s Blackhawk tool box you likely noticed and decided was overpriced (it was, but I've outgrown my current 'Blackhawk' box).
Thanks, Don. I was using a chart similar to the second one you show, but I misunderstood the application of "G", thinking it was used for all government contract production during the war rather than just 1945 specifically.
Found this example of the uppercase "SNAP/on" logo (mentioned by OP) on a 3/8 to 1/4 drive socket. I'm guessing "G" indicates government use, but not sure if the the "|" is a number (1941?) or letter.
