You specifically mentioned sparkplugs, I got a second hand (I literally can't say used) spark plug socket from the snap-on truck for cheap, it has a built in universal, and since a 3/8 universal is smaller than the socket, I haven't run into clearance issues. I can't speak for all SO sparkplug...
