Wow, that one is a first for me. I used to subcontract making the airbrush bodies for Badger Air brush. Made 10's of thousands of them for the shop next door that did the secondary finishing work for Badger. Nothing modern looks anything like that one!

Actually, seeing that catalog listing now, I am not sure? I always used that style with Leather Burr Rivets for driving the washer on the stud and then doming the stud nub after trimming. I didn't even realize there was a larger selection of them. I may need to research this a bit more.
I think that as stated up earlier, the reason for initial thread failure is usually more than just a tension failure pulling out the threads. That face to face sliding action of the fastener thread to the threaded hole also has a galling and shearing action that helps cause the original...
I would take a look at the impeller/auger belt and tensioner. You might be getting some slip that is preventing the auger from feeding the impeller with enough snow. Granted, they are geared together, but I've certainly had issues with plugging and poor performance from belt slip.

The profile of that tap looks like a Nut Tap. Long tapered lead in for production tap threading of nuts. Very low torque thread cutting because of that long lead in taper.
