    Craftsman 5242 advise pls.

    Actually, it doesn't have a retainer ring or a pin.... just the aforementioned collet holding the screw into the moveable section. I suspect this wasn't the top of the line as far as quality goes but for the money I can't go wrong. :thumbup:

    Actually, it's much simpler than that one, and it's now completely apart. Once I realized there was nothing stopping it from unscrewing into two pieces, that left only a collet with a set screw to complete the separation. Guess this is one of the easy ones! Thanks much, RUT (one time Rhode...
