Check out this home made all-wood car lift!

I dont have a problem with what he did save, he's invested in this mess, and its outside, should have gone with pressure treated. so he can leave it there. thats an opinion about his long term usage, not about what he plans to do for the next few days. I like the plywood boxes on pg 11, very...

    My 16x24 Mess/Mustang Storage

looking good and welcome to the forums, the nailed over window was probably a hole for an A/C unit. looks like you have some good lighting going on. very nice.

Been thinking on a mega cheap garage

if you don't want the look of that building I wouldn't go that way. get a regular carport roof close it in yourself by framing it and puting siding on it. any way to properly attach hardiboard etc to it is going to punch holes through the only thing keeping water out, no bueno.

    Workbench backsplash ideas

stainless gets my vote, nothing will match the same. but for cost purposes, a roll of aluminum flashing and a tube of silicon would be more my financial speed.

    Adding to garage ideas??

anything you'd do would not be able to match the garage roofline because of the windows on the house, if you are will to accept that you could do a carport, but only if your willing to move your power wire.. looks like a bad deal, like said above, add to back or build a big storage shed to move...

    Detached Carport To Garage

isn't the tree the center post for that wall? if you live out in the boonies, you can, I would REALLY consider shortening your right side roofline to not be using the tree. my shop is 22x20, its plenty big enough for a one man/ One project at a time workshop (unless your going for machine shop...

Ground connection to cold water pipe -- main panel on detached shop

you don't need to but you can, but you do need to do the ground at the subpanel and cold water pipe as the inspector requested. I ran the ground because I ran cat5e as well, I also put a ground rod in for the hell of it at the shop side, between the risk of lightning and just plain "easier to...

    Loft for car storage... ideas?

ok so seeing and getting some more info, how about renting/borrowing some kind of forklift to put itup there, and instead of a square loft (since you don't want posts in the freespace) lay up your posts next to your verticals and cut the corner, less span and no posts. less loft, but life is a...

Would you sell all your tools and quit DIY if your workshop was costing you money?

to answer, I dont sell tools. that said, I wont pay $450 a month for storing them, I would pay $100 a month for a storage unit first.... especially if your moving, get a place with a garage thats not for cars only (read as, most apartments) and that's where they go. if your better half doesn't...

    Loft for car storage... ideas?

as someone who has stored other peoples **** too long, if they aren't paying for storage then its time to call it quits on the favor, imo, if you spend money to do this you will start feeling taken advantage of. I wouldn't modify my arrangements to suit helping someone else (unless he gave me...

Remember Me, I Asked For Help? Price Quoted, I'm In Sticker Shock

this seems like a good idea, plus once he puts in the breaker boxes you can do some of the mundane electrical yourself, my friend had the first outlet in every circuit installed in his garage/shop and added the rest himself. cut the price a fair bit and got the hard routing done. this #4 guy...

    Buried conduit, wire size, type??

nada, but if he had it fused/disconnect before he could have cut power and not lost it at the house. nothing wrong either way but there are good reasons for both. if the meter was on the house, as alot are, having a disconnect would be easy, even if he had to run it inside and pop back out for...
