There was a Western Auto Supply store in Lynn Massachusetts back in the early 1950's.I remember it because I got my first(new)two wheel bicycle there in 1954.Up until then I had only bicycles I built up(with my grandfather's help)from used parts. I remember it was red and black and had a faux...
Nice save! I have two of those boxes I have posted here before;one is the top lock and the other has a double lock hasp on the top. That one has foldout trays instead of a single lift out.I chose to leave them as is and letter the sides to use as a sign kit(I'm a semi-retired sign painter).

Found this one last week at the local flea market. The last thing I really needed was ANOTHER tool box but I can quit.....anytime......if I have to......:bounce:
Anyway here it is.Don't know what gauge steel it is but I would hate to carry it around all day;even empty!
Here is a contraption I picked up awhile back:a Red Devil Jak-Nife. Uses a single edge razor blade for a cutting tool;folds closed for safety and in the open position can be used as either a scraper or a knife.Locks in position by means of a wing nut. Anyone know how this one might be?
Although I grew up just outside of Boston I never heard of the Ric-Nor Co. until I got one of their knives. They aren't what you would call expensive knives but the steel seems to be good and they hold a decent edge.
Here's one I picked up today. Not sure of the year but it's the first Kennedy box I've seen with a bronze name plate on the front. I have a similar sized one of newer vintage that has three trays.
The reason you don't find a lot of them around in good condition has to do with the way they are designed to be used. For cutting rope the rope was laid flat and the knife put to where it was to be cut and the spine of the knife struck with a hammer or whatever was available to use as a hammer...
You have a pretty collectible pocket knife there. My advice as far as restoring it is:
Use a # 2 lead pencil to remove any active rust.It will not remove pitting sadly. Most of the handles on those were a black composition material(an early plastic).Usually a light wiping with a rag soaked in...
I have a small collection of old utility knives and a lot of them utilize old single edge razor blades(and one a double edged blade).Seems to have been a popular recycling method in the Depression era. The coolest ones are this Red Devil "Jak-nife" and the Hyde model. Both use single edge razor...
Don't know how many people on here are interested in old knives but I have been a collector of them for a bit over 60 years now. Am always on the lookout for them and several of my friends look for me as well.
The other day I went to breakfast(a biweekly thing called the,"Geezer Gathering")and...
Haven't been getting out much lately due to some health issues with myself and my wife but Saturday I stopped in to see a friend of mine at his antique shop. Found these three items:
First up is a pair of Fulton pruning shears someone had listed as tin snips. While you could probably use them for...
Here is a pic of a Goodell-Pratt push drill along with one by Miller's Falls and several Blue-Point screwdrivers that hold a screw until you start to turn it.The push drills came with all 8 bits for 75 cents apiece. They are good for drilling soft material such as wood plastic and aluminum;don't...
