The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Making progress on the 70's Lyon box. The hanging file folder struts worked great, and I had the drawers out easily once I got the bends (and technique) figured out. I cleaned up everything with some dish soap, degreaser, and a low pressure wash. Really happy with how it cleaned up. Now...

Thanks so much RTM. I will give this a shot tonight!

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Thanks so much senlow. My brother bought this from a retiring machinist in the late 80's when he joined the trade, so a 1970's vintage doesn't surprise me. I have been doing my homework and it looks like I might need a hacksaw blade. Any advice you can offer will be gold - thanks so much...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I just pulled this toolbox out of my brother's garage. He passed away this winter from covid, and I am helping my sister-in-law clean out the house. Can anyone help age this for me? It is heavy duty, and nearly rust free. Just cleaned it out and getting ready to scrub it clean, buff up the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I wouldn't have it any other way. Love the small block Ford motor. This is a 5.0 from an 89 GT. Set up with an edelbrock intake and Holley 650 double pumper. Also, the old Workmate stands are great. If you don't have an old workmate, go find one. It is perfect for mating engines to...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Started to position the new engine and ****** so I can mock up the engine mounts and cross member on the F100 project.

    My 2 bay snake pit

So the holidays are over, and it was time to batten down the hatches for the rest of the winter. I ran over schedule, but I still managed to get everything squared away. The compressor is set, and I hung an electric heater to warm the place up on cold days. I managed to push the F100 inside...

Blue Saber Cabinet Install / Review

I installed my Saber cabinets this fall. Very happy with the results.

    My simple 3 car

Very Nice! You are making great progress. A big shed, and a basement clean out were all required for my project. Hopefully your shed gets approved.

    My 2 bay snake pit

I finished up installing the compressor. I used some 5 inch redheads to bolt it down, and some vibration pads to reduce the noise. The pads make a big difference, and I am surprised how quiet the compressor is when running. These were inexpensive ($17 on Amazon for 4) but they stank to high...

    My 2 bay snake pit

Finally emptied out the tent in the driveway. I felt like I was running out of time, needing to have this down and put away before the snow flies. It looks like another week of good weather, but I am happy to have the tent put away. The garage is a little crowded now, and I need to find a...

    My 2 bay snake pit

Working through some compressor installation issues. I have a filter and regulator that I got with the compressor (all IR). I built up a manifold in 1/2 inch copper, and a board to mount it to. For now, the goal is to get it installed and running. I will plumb a distribution network down the...

    My 2 bay snake pit

I have only had the car in and out a couple of times, but the tile doesn't move. No problem moving toolboxes at all. The tile seems pretty tough, and I have a couple of spare tiles if one gets damaged.

    My 2 bay snake pit

Progress continues. I had to laugh. Within 10 minutes of placing the bench top, it was covered in stuff. Clean, horizontal surfaces have their own gravity :). So this is why the cabinets don't go all the way across - I finished up the last of the cuts on the Race Deck. I have one...

    My 2 bay snake pit

There is more than the one 2x6 supporting the tall cabinet. I built a box frame similar to the one I used for the upper cabinets. It is about 28" square, and allows several (6) attachment points for the cabinet to the wall. This also created a point to nail my fill panel to close off the hole.
