    Show Me Your Craftsman BE

Alloy Artifcats seems to state that some of the wartime C'man stuff was cad plated. I personally don't think it is cad on either breaker bar, but there are threads on here that have me terrified of cad. It is really nasty stuff.

    Show Me Your Craftsman BE

I scored a 1/4 drive C'man BE breaker bar at the local flea last week. I soaked in the citric acid homebrew rust remover and would love to finish it up on the wire wheel, but are the BE stamped tools known to be cad plated? If so I'll just leave it, it's perfectly functional as it. Also scored...

Speed Handles --- What They Good For?

The older Craftsmen ones from the 1950s era were very nice. They have a sleeve that rotates around the palm grip area, at least on the 1/2 drive version. I have one of these but almost never use it. I've never seen a 3/4 drive version, at least not in C'man. I'm a big drive guy BTW, I like...

Speed Handles --- What They Good For?

Throw one in the car trunk with a socket on it for whatever size your lug nuts are. Wrap it in a rag or something to stop it from rattling. If you ever have to change a tire on the side of the road, the couple minutes it saves you could literally be life or death. Every minute spent roadside...

Thanks all. I tiink I'm going with this KTD set, it just looks nice, is made in USA, and I like the pouch. https://www.centraltools.com/ktd01-magnum-tip-drill-set-52-74.html

Quality set of mini drill bits?

I'm looking for a good quality set of mini / micro drill bits, like this set for example just not amazon Chinesium ****. I'd love a high quality cobalt steel set of these mini bits, preferably USA or German made. Any suggestions welcomed, thanks.

    The Ratchet Collection Thread

I think I do remember Kirkland tool sets back in say 2015 or so. They still have tool sets sometimes now (wrenches/ratchets/sockets/bits) but usually they are Dewalt. I don't think these tool sets sell well at Costco. I bet most of them are purchased by women as gifts for men. Nothing really...

    HF oddest size skip set

Here is another example of poor and odd size skipping/size selection: https://www.harborfreight.com/38-in-drive-metric-impact-swivel-socket-set-7-piece-67908.html We have 10, 11, 12, 13 14, 16, and 17. This set would make a lot more sense if they dropped 16 and 17 and added 8 and 9, or 8 and...

    HF oddest size skip set

LOL my 1999 Saturn SL had 330,000 miles on the clock when I scrapped it. Was burning about a quart of oil every 500 miles. The Saturn TAAT auto trannys were total junk, the valve bodies fried solenoids constantly, hence the hard clunking/slamming that loosened the 23 mm nut. Also they were prone...

    HF oddest size skip set

A 23 mm thin wall socket is used for the input nut on late 1990s Saturn SL automatic transmissions, which are known to loosen up about once a week so that the car loses it's reverse gear until you tighten it. Even globs of red Locktite doesn't hold that nut on for long. I still have my thin 23...

    HF oddest size skip set

12 is skipped pretty often, esp in older sets from like 10+ years ago. The no-skip movement only picked up steam fairly recently, before that skips were the norm rather than the exception.

    HF oddest size skip set

I've been puzzled by this HF wrench set for a long time. Why does it skip 13 mm and 18 mm? I don't think I've ever seen a metric set that skipped 13 mm? Maybe they think people will buy the SAE set too and sub the 1/2 for the 13? - and the 5/8 for the 16 mm? Those 2 sae subs make sense, but...

Proto Challenger 1060-1 spring for 1/4 drive ratchet

Hi all, was servicing a nice Challenger 1060-1 round head ratchet and of course lost the tiny spring for the pawl. These are not the easiest ratchets to service due to the tiny size of the parts and the awkward reassembly procedure. Anyone have a spare spring or know the size so I could get one...

Are tool truck sockets “worth it” for the professional?

There was a poster on here years ago who said a mobile mechanic came to work on his heavy equipment and had Pittsburgh HF tools and he refused to let him work on his equipment. Sounded pretty stupid to me. I don't recall ever breaking a Pittsburg socket and I have some that are pushing 15 years...
