Update: the link belts I had made the RPM's much faster than the rubber belts. So I'm sticking with the rubber belts. I clocked the RPM's at 230. Way better than 360! I bought the slow speed assembly off of eBay for $170. The guy has since gotten greedy and is now selling it for $959. Ridiculous!

My vise didn’t come with an original spring or collar. When I tested the shaft before putting it together the spring didn’t spin. Only the shaft , e-clip, and washer spun. The spring was stationary. I made sure and put a fair amount of grease in that area though. When the e-clip pops out or...

I have a Craftsman 51871 5 1/2” bench vise from the mid 90’s that I’m restoring. The previous owner welded the E-clip/collar to the shaft. I managed to carefully gring them off the shaft and take the whole thing apart. I have the spring and can simply use a 3/4” E-Clip from a hardware store...

The 3L rubber belts fixed the problem. Went from 365 RPM to 236.

So the 3L fit like a glove in my pulleys. I heard someone say you don’t want it to fit perfectly. I ran it and didn’t hear or feel any vibrations. What are your thoughts?

Yes, that’s what I’m using but only a link belt. Don’t know what’s going on. What’s your slowest speed? Mine is 360RPMs. My motor is 1725rpms.
