    The VISES of Garage Journal

I wonder what the point of such an elaborate profile is if you're just going to cast it in place. I don't think you could mill that, you would have to use a shaper or something. Maybe they thought the curve would press into the casting over time. -Sean

Craftsman 150 Drill Press Motor Bounce

A combination of things solved the problem. 1. I ran out to AutoZone and picked up a 44" x 1/2" cogged v-belt. It is significantly more pliable and fits in the pulley better. The previous one was the same size, but much stiffer and had a cloth like exterior that I think was enabling some...

Craftsman 150 Drill Press Motor Bounce

I checked the motor spindle and it's still very true with very acceptable runout. I had also already re-mounted and tightened the pulleys so that they were parallel. Like FrankLee said, the bottom screw doesn't go into the head. There is no hole in the head and the bolt has a rubber bumper...

Craftsman 150 Drill Press Motor Bounce

I recently picked up a Craftsman 150 drill press and overall its in great condition and works wonderfully. The belt it came with though was pretty rough, so I picked up a replacemement 44" kevlar belt. It has the swivel motor mount and a 1/2hp motor. My problem is that the motor bounces...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

Picked up this 397.19580 1/3hp today at the flea market. It seems to be complete except for the tray and a single screw holding the light on the back. It only has two rubber feet on the bottom though. It even has old sears craftsman wheels on it. I was really surprised how great of shape it...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

While I'm going crazy posting pics I figured I would show off what I got at the flea market today. It's a Wilton 9300 in excellent condition. It doesn't have the swivel base, but is otherwise complete. This is my first Wilton bullet vise and I was surprised how smooth and heavy it was...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I picked up a Columbian 504 1/2 for $45 last weekend at an antique mall in STL. Easily the biggest vise I've ever run across at an antique mall. I didn't want this thing in the truck with me if I got in an accident. Even outside it would probably be like shooting a cannon ball if you got...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I picked up a little Columbian 63 1/2 at the flea market last month for $20. It operated fine, but has been well used over its life. I decided to clean it up a bit and ended up giving it to a friend for his birthday. It had a well used life before it got into my hands. I didn't want to...
