The cheapest thing that I can think of is getting some old wood, encase it in epoxy, then installing it. But gallons and gallons of epoxy are expensive. Maybe you can look at www.caesarstone.ca/blog/types-of-kitchen-countertops-design-ideas/ to get some more ideas. I'm not sure if epoxy is more...
