Have you figured your welder out yet?? If not, take the pedal apart and re-connect one of the wires going to the rheostat....mine does the same thing occasionally... will start the arc, but no amp control..
Expansion Chambers should be made of Mild Steel... Stainless tends to crack easily in that application....also gas welding an expansion chamber leaves the steel soft (annealed) and less likely to crack...Just my observations over the last 25 odd years..

Dr Clyde ... The Airgas around here WILL NOT sell 330 CU' tanks... lease only... and I know of no other gas supply in SE Michigan the will sell anything larger than 125... The deal with airgas is this..if you own a bottle , and go in for a fill , and don't have a cash account , or a net 30...
Or you can use the press brake style bender for your press, lay 20 pcs on a table , Making tape them together(flat , side by side) mark your bends and do like 20 at a time.. Just a thought...
