recommend pliers for pocket carry at work

I work at a marine terminal, and have carried seemingly every 10" set of pliers on tthe market. I now carry the channellocks, as several pliers have gone overboard, my knipex pliers came up missing, and I will never carry expensive pliers again. At home I prefer knipex. At work, Channellocks...

Of all the good stuff on the Garage Journal, I found this thread to be the most captivating yet! I dont know how I managed to miss this until now, but have spent the last couple of days reading through it. Don, thank you much for sharing this with us. I have enjoyed reading it all. 15 years...

Brought a uni-saw sight un seen

Good score mrbreeze. I quit building cabinets a dozen years ago and sold a lot of my tools, but kept the unisaw. You cant help but be happy about your purchase. Great price too! Get well soon and post up some thoughts after you make some sawdust.

    Battleship Texas workshop

Good post lowbucktruck. The battleship Texas is a fantastic floating museum, at the historic San Jacinto battleground and monument. There is a crew of men that are trying their hardest to keep this ship afloat; and are barely able to do so. My son is in his 3rd year at an out-of-state college...

    DIY storage cabinet help...

Vicious Customs, you can do this! You wont save any money doing it yourself, but you can learn some new skills and acquire some new tools that will pay for themselves this job and from now on. You have got great information and advise here. I too recommend a book that covers basic kitchen...

small parts organizer & storage reviews

Matt, solve the divider issue by using a drop of super glue at the bottom. That keeps them in place, but you can forcefully remove the divider if needed and able to use the divider again.

This may or may not belong here, hopefully someone might Chime in

You got some good info here and some useless info here. I'll chime in and you can file it either way. My lot is about an acre and a half. It is more yard than lawn. If it were up to me, I'd have a brand new Dixie Chopper. Since I dont have 8 grand to burn and my wife cuts the grass more than I...

Practical value of a shop press

I dont use it often, but it is invaluable when you need one. While I dont use one often enough to justify a better one, the HF 20 ton press has paid for itself over the long term. It has been over a year since I've used mine and thought about selling it. As soon as I do, I'd need it again...

Let's talk Axes for a Minute

Yep. Better than than taking a saw or grinder to it! :shocking: Seriously, I had three old pickup truck gas tanks that had laid around for too long. They had been drained and flushed, but couldn't be discarded as the metal yards wont take whole gas tanks. The axe made short work of it. Problem...

Let's talk Axes for a Minute

An axe is the best tool to split a gas tank in two for disposal. Really good info in this thread guys. My axes were from garage sales and hand me downs. I dont have any heirloom or collector stuff, but they all hold an edge. My favorite is a cheap boy's axe that is handy for cutting tree limbs...

Starter tool box for 13 year old

blacksuit and other Dads out there; Great job! I think it is wonderful to start your kids out right. My dad started my tool collection for me when I was about that age. I believe it was an exercise for me to learn to take care of my own stuff and not to need or borrow from others. Sadly, my...

    Does your wife know

duckface, you are right about that. Like Kevin's sine plate, even a well-meaning, knowledgeable person could be way off on something like that. I have seen it myself. This is more reason for me to start liquidating some stuff now.

    Does your wife know

Good topic Kevin, and one the wife and I have talked about. To answer your question, No; my wife has no idea what my tools are worth. On the same token, I have no idea what her 3 sets of China & crystal, ceramic figurines or jewelry is worth. The resolve is that we both know who to go to for...

    Steel or Wood Swing set?

Anchor the legs e-tek, or the rowdy boys will tip it over. You reminded me of when I was a kid. A neighbor had a swing set he had built from oil field pipe. He used that frame to pull an engine out of his wife's Impala one time. Unless I had the steel and the time, I would have gone with wood...
